I have just started reading Joel Osteen's new book called, "Become a Better You." It is so awesome! I have only read the first 25 pages, and let me tell you, this book is a life changer! I got to page 5 and I was no more good. The message spoke to my heart so much; that I figured this message couldn't possibly be just for me. So I decided to share it with you. If you are not a fan of Joel's, please set aside your preconceived notions and be willing to receive what the Spirit might want to say to you here.
A direct excerpt from page 5 of "Become a Better You." These words are Joel Osteen's and not Sue's :)
You have everything you need to fulfill your God-given destiny. God has already put in the talent, the creativity, the discipline, the wisdom, and the determination. It's all in you. You are full of potential. But you have to do your part and start tapping into it. You have to make better use of the gifts and talents that God has given you.
The Scripture teaches that we have a valuable treasure on the inside. You have a gift. You have something to offer that nobody else has. You didn't just show up on planet Earth by accident. You were handpicked by Almighty God. He saw you before you were formed in your mother's womb and placed you here for a reason. You have an assignment. There's something that God wants you to accomplish. Somebody needs your touch. Somebody needs what you have.
Don't live with that treasure undiscovered, and don't die with the treasure still in you. Press forward. Give birth to the dreams and desires that God has placed in your heart.
Neurologists have discovered that the average person uses less than 10 percent of his or her mind. That means more than 90 percent of the mind's capability lies dormant. It never gets tapped into. But if we could just understand what we have: God has deposited a part of Himself in you. When it came time for you to be born, God said, "Let Me give you some of this gift; some of this talent; some of this creativity." You have the seed of Almighty God on the inside of you. You were never created to be average. You were never created to reach a certain level and then plateau. You were created to excel. There's no limit to how high you can go in life. There's no limit to what you can accomplish, if you will just learn to shake off complacency and keep stretching into the next level.
But it all starts in our hearts and minds. We have to believe that we have what it takes. We have to believe that we have a gift, a treasure on the inside. People may have tried to push you down. Circumstances may have soured your outlook on life.
Maybe you've tried to succeed in life but have hit a brick wall again and again. Try again. Somebody may have told you "no" a thousand times; ask again. Keep asking until you get the "yes" that you've been waiting to hear. You've got to keep pressing. Too many people grow satisfied with far less than God's best for their lives.
(Joel ends here, Sue returns :)
This is just one page out of 379. I can say with confidence, after only reading 25 pages, that this is a must read. I hope I simply wet your appetite for more.
Much love to all of my MyChurch family! |

| Yes, Sue, this does sound like an interesting book. I think Joel Osteen specializes in encouragement and he does do a good job of it. Thanks for sharing. |

| I think he's using his gift as an exhorter and encourager to the max. Thanks for posting this. It is a subject the Lord is dealing with me on right now. |

Osteen is entertaining for sure, but the books I've read seem more like self help than inspiration from God. He is very practical, but it seems to me more like a way for us to modify our behavior than for God to change us from within. I believe he's sincere and many will benefit from him it's just not for me.

Mike, My copy will probably need to be put in the dryer by the time I am done with it!
Rosie, I am with you! Walmart is my second home :)
Yahschild, He certainly does encourage. And boy do we all need encouragement in this day in age. Joel is definitely a Pastor for a time such as this.
Sande, Thanks for the confirmation. I knew this word couldn't just be for me :)
In the Han..., I couldn't agree with you more. I see Pastor bashing as pride in its ugliest form.
Deb, Love you sister!
Shane, I guess there really are different strokes for different folks. Because I don't know of anyone else who has given me more "inspirations from God," than Joel. God has changed my life tremendously though the teachings of Osteen. But if it's not for you, that's certainly your choice. |

| Go Sue! Way to plug Voice rather than Amazon. ;) We gotta support eachother in the body of Christ. I have to be honest I'm still a little guarded about Osteen just because upon first impression he seems a bit consumed with self-promotion. However I trust God can use many people of differing backgrounds to convey His message. I am confident that many people, including myself at times allow wordly fears & societal pressures to hinder us from fulfilling God's plan for our lives & the gifts He has created us to share with others. As long as we keep our focus on the Christ we can & should put ourselves in a position to grow. Thank you for the reccomendation. |

I picked up Joel's book and did get to read some of it; however, I had a friend who was retiring and she didn't know what she was going to do, so I passed it onto her as a gift. I love Joel's upbeat, positive attitude and approaches life and scripture with hope and encouragement. We all need more of it! Thank you for sharing this excerpt.
