When Superman Returns came out, my fam ily and I went to see it on opening day. It was sooo good, but it made me sad because it reminded me of Christopher Reeve, who will always be Superman to me. It also reminded me of the true Superman. The one who saved me from spiritual death and hell. The one with real x-ray vision! And that reminded me of this passage. As I started writing about what it meant to me, it started gettin' good to me, y'all! I realized that I was gonna have to break it into two parts (I have a hard time reading super long blogs, even if they're really good, so I wanted to break it into bite-sized chunks). So I want to share this message with you, and I pray that you are blessed by it, to see just how much our Daddy knows, loves, and cares for us. ~~~~~~ Psalm 139 "O LORD, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, O LORD, You know it altogether. You have hedged me behind and before, and laid Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it." (v. 1-6) He knows us intimately, everything that we do, think, or say, before we do. The enemy often uses low self-esteem to batter us down, trying to make us feel worthless. But our omnipotent God cares so much about us that He took the time to know us thoroughly. We are special to Him. The devil is a liar! Another tool of the enemy is unforgiveness of one's self. We go for years holding on to things we did in the past, mourning over them, beating ourselves up over them, when God has already heard our repentant prayer and forgiven us. The enemy doesn't want us to remember that our omniscient God already knew everything we would ever do and Jesus still died on the cross for us! When I think of hedging in, it brings to mind hedges on a garden path that are there, not just for beauty, but also to make sure a person doesn't veer off the path. God hedges me in. His hand is upon me and keeps me on the right path so that I don't stray. That He would love us so much, individually, when we are so sinful, is impossible to understand. But oh how wonderful it is! ~~~~~~ "Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,” even the night shall be light about me; Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, but the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light are both alike to You." (v. 7-12) Our God is omnipresent: everywhere at once. And all of Him is present everywhere at once. So all of Him is in the room when you pray and all of Him is here when I'm in my prayer closet at the same time. We each have His undivided attention all at once. My Daddy is awesome! There is nowhere that we can hide from Him. He sees everything we do, even things we hide from everyone else. That oughta, as my daddy used to say, make us "Straighten up and fly right!" But it's also a comfort, because that means He always sees and knows when we're sad, hurting, crying. Even in the dead of night, when no one else is around, He's there to catch us when we fall! I'll stop here and continue in Part 2, and I hope that you are led to continue reading. Be blessed! |
