| A very scary day, indeed!!! |

Yesterday was a day I won't soon forget. Don't think I could if I tried. It all really started on Tuesday......
Allen has a rather nasty cold. Dr. Aldea checked him for strep and all that good stuff and proclaimed him "stuffed up, snotty, and sick besides"!!! On Tuesday I developed what I thought was the start of a sinus headache I picked up from Allen. I did some video review here at the Covington store Wednesday morning, and the entire time time I had this awful headache. I shrugged it off and started off to Bonsack on 460 in north Roanoke County. Between Fincastle and Daleville, I glanced at one of the roadside signs and what.....!? I couldn't get my eyes to focus and I felt nauseous. I made it to work and thought I just needed to sit down and get a bite of lunch. As I was waiting to pay, I looked down at the ticket and it was blurry and I felt a bit dizzy. About half way through lunch I began to get numb in my face and fingertips. I went to the pharmacy and checked my blood pressure..... 198 over 112. Not good. Not good at all. I realize those machines are not exactly accurate, but still......... I went to the office and called Terry at home. All at once, nausea washed over me and WHAM!!!! Let's just say it was a good thing there was a trash can there. After the third wave of this nausea, Terry told me to get checked. Being the obediant husband, I promptly blew off her suggestion and went to the floor. After 15 minutes of this blurred, moving vision and more than a bit of wooziness, I checked my BP again..... 195/110. Uh oh. I called Terry again. Now Terry can tell you I am stubborn and pigheaded. And on top of that, I rarely complain about feeling ill. But something was not right. Travis Hoke, my supervisor, walked in and said I looked bad. The decision was made to call 911. Terry called her Dad, Burton, and waited........ The medic gave me four choices. The first two were out as they involved me driving home, something I most definitely was not prepared to risk. The other two involved a trip to the ER, either with them or Travis. Travis' eyes got wide and the color drained from his face, and I opted for the ride in the unit. After a barrage of tests, including a CT scan, an EKG, and a chest Xray, the doctor came back with a surprising diagnosis. Acute vertigo with labyrinthianism. Vertigo will affect your vision and make you nauseous. Labyrinthianism affects your balance when the vertigo kicks in. Kinda goes hand in hand. But most doctors label the entire problem as acute vertigo. So.... after some Valium (which kicked my butt) to ease the symptoms and Antivert for the vertigo, I got to come home. I am off work at least today to adjust to the Antivert they put me on and to get my equilibrium back. Hopefully I can adjust quickly and get back to work. I got to thinking on the way home that maybe this a a thorn in my side, so to speak. God said he would use the little things to bring down the mighty. God always knows what is best and does things for His own reasons, and it is not up to me to question. Of course, the sinful man always does, but the answers are never what you expect. Pray for me as I adjust and pray for Terry that if I fall, she won't laugh too hard..... |
