How do I Start Sharing my Faith(2)?
1:19 Know this, my beloved brethren. Let every man be quick to hear(listen), slow to speak, slow to anger, Build Rapport by Asking Questions
How you ever wondered why the God who fearfully and wonderfully made you created most of us with 2 ears and 1 mouth? Yesterday we talked about how to break the ice using a bible tract and today we will take it a step forward. Have you ever asked yourself if you do more talking than listening? I know I have been a long winded blabbermouth at times. You can ask my wife. I sometimes get on a roll. I definately challenge the statistic that says men speak about 10,000 words a day and women 25,000. Think about the power of asking questions.
1. Asking questions demands that we get our eyes off ourselves 2. Asking questions obviously demands us to be good listeners 3. Asking questions allows us to open somebody's heart and reveals info we might not have known
Jesus asked a lot of questions. Remember the master evangelist in John 4 as he reaches out to a Samaritan woman and asks, "Women, will you get me a drink?" One questions births a deeper conversation that uncorks a citywide revival. Is it possible that one question at the watercooler could be the key to unlock salvation at your workplace? One question out at the mailbox could be the key to your neighborhood coming to Jesus! One question around the turkey could be the start to a family member coming to the Lord this holiday season!
I want you to remember this acronym. FORM. FORM. FORM is an acronym for:
F-Family O-Occupation R-Recreation M-Message
You can begin in the natural by asking questions like; Are you from around here? Are you married? Do you have any children? What do you do for work? What do you do for fun in your spare time? Remember Jesus again in John 4 started in the natural talking about water.
You can swing from the natural (family, occupation, recreation) to the spiritual by taking yesterday's tip of handing them a gospel tract and asking (M-Message), Have you ever seen one of these? It has a spiritual message in it. Are you a spiritual person? What kind of church background do you have? I promise that if you will use this tip, you will be sharing your faith more than ever.
So here's today's tip. Even though it may take weeks, months, or even years to build a real relationship, you can build rapport in minutes by asking questions.
I want everyone to post your comment to this question with a least a yes or no. Do you think you should wait until you have a legitimate relationship with someone before you share the gospel with them? I will post the cummulative answers tomorrow. these evangelism tips are AWESOME. Thank you for the work that goes into doing this. I hope the congregation is taking advanage of it. To answer your question I would say "no". I believe the Gospel works whether or not you know the person. God bless you Jeff! |

| Thanks Russ. This is so fun and fulfilling for me. It's a blessing to be part of what you are doing and your friend. |

| I had to think about this one for a bit. But only for a bit. NO. Most of the folks I've been privileged to help come to the Lord have been people I've just met, or had very little relationship with. That said, there have been others who took longer. God is sovereign, and the Holy Spirit will prompt when to push forward and when to back off. One sows, one waters, one harvests. It's all about the prompting of the Spirit, isn't it? And God brings the harvest in His time. But we do need to be listening for that prompting, ready at a moment's notice to sow, water, or reap. |

Don-
You got it my brother. Some plant, some water, but it is God who brings the increase. Being led by the Spirit is whole other topic. Phillip was led by the Spirit to go speak to the Ethiopian eunuch and must obviously obey those promptings but if are not getting any special leading, we already have the leading in Mark 16:15 go into all the world and preach. Thanks. |
