Oh, yes you can!

Ephesians 1:19-20

How many times have we said it? How many times have we heard other say it? Christians who claim that they can't help but sin or that they just can't overcome it. I have heard some say, "I keep asking God to take it away from me, but He doesn't!" Ephesians 1 reminds us that the power of the Holy Spirit within us is the same power that raised Jesus from the dead. That's the kind of power than can do anything!

The New Testament makes it clear that we are no longer slaves to sin - we no longer are under obligation to obey its desires. So, whose job is it now to keep us from sinning? Can we stop sinning on our own? No way! However, this does not mean that we just say, "Lord, take it away." We must lay it down by the power of the Holy Spirit within us.

As a believer, there is no sin and no temptation that we cannot overcome. The problem is, if we were to be honest, we don't want to cast it away. His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness. He has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. The power of the Holy Spirit is within us.

"I can't stop doing ______!" By the power of the Holy Spirit, oh yes you can! Now, do you want to?

Paul,

Nicely put. My last two blogs have been on this subject and I am writing the next one today, (I think, I need to call the paper and ask what my deadline is). Anywho, it is a very touchy subject to people, they like the idea that they can't help but sin. It gives them an excuse to continue in their sin. If they commanded God to take it away, they feel just in continuing it, and blaming it on God for not doing His part. If people would read their Bible they would see that it is their job to reckon the old man to be dead to sin, and then look to Jesus who will author and finish their faith. Blessings to you!
