I'm more of a Star Wars fan, but everytime someone who doesn't know that and references, mistakenly, Star Trek, it gives me a laugh.
It doesnt' have anything to do with this, but I wanted to share :P |

Thanks Lara. My next oldest brother will be thrilled. My oldest brother will probably just turn to the History channel. Thanks Growing In Faith. Futurama has a reference to all the Star Wars fans leaving earth. They called it the Star Wars Trek. |

Heehee, love the Captain Kirk pic, heehee! I too am more of a Star Wars than Star Trek, but have had to watch them with my hubby. We always joked about the no-named new people on the bridge...they usually didn't make it through the show! |

I am SO looking forward to the new movie. Jess, how much space do you want to allow for the discussion about all the "first steps" that Star Trek is responsible for?
Let me just add: I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE MOVIE!

And you will note that the red shirts in the original series were the ones who never made it back while the yellow shirts are the ones in the TNG who were expendable. In TNG the red shirts were officers! My red shirt stays put!

Ohmigosh! I am SOOOOO not a trekkie! But I have a REALLY GOOD FRIEND who is! I'm passing this along to Brett! He's as sci fi as they come! Even so, I love and adore him dearly! hehehehehe! Why did that one dude wear a mane clip (a 1980's hair accessory) spray painted gold on worn like glasses, calling it a visor? Talk about cheap props! ;>) |

Trekkies - we need to tell our favorite movie and / or TV show. My all time favorite is "The Trouble with Tribbles." What's yours? |

| Do you know, the first Star Trek I ever saw was when I was pretty young. My parents were watching it and there were these things that sucked the salt out of you and left rings on your neck! I had nightmares for weeks, and have never liked the show since. Now, when I see it, I just find it kind of silly--no offense to trekkies. A mane clip for a visor! Sorry, I'm a NJ girl whose heyday was the 8u0's Big hair and mane clips! I shoulda taken stock in Aqua Net! |

One of my favorites is when the enterprise landed on a planet with, I think, one survivor from a colony or ship wreck there. She was young and beautiful and they were going to take her away. Some pale big brained aliens were taking care of her. She couldn't go because she was really very scarred, old and unhealthy but looked and felt great as long as she stayed there with the help of the aliens. So Kirk knew of a Commander that was in this life support chair barely alive from a "space accident" and they took him there to live with the lady. It shows them walking out both young and healthy, holding hands and waving to the crew as it left. It has been YEARS since I saw that and may not have it all right but it was my favorite!
They did the younger version of superman, why not the Star Trek Crew. It should be popular if they get good writers. We will all know their future already though, so we don't have to worry about them dying off... did we ever though! LOL |

Oh yes, I remember being fascinated by the Star Trek show back then. We were watching the space race unfold and then there was a space ship that could do all sorts of cool stuff. My parents didn't like the show because they thought Spock looked like the Devil. |

Gene you are so right about the first steps that came from Star Trek. I have to tell you Trekkies all something. My husband works for Cisco, and they have just developed and launched the first Halogram meetings. It is actually on you tube. The meeting was held in India, and the hologram was projected from California.

I just can't wait for Transporters, I would love to just be able to do lunch in Paris. Or better yet I love the way the Replicators cook and do the dishes at the push of a button. |

Hi Gene! Glad to see my favorite "Red Shirt" here! Bread and circuses is a favorite of mine as well, mostly because of that last scene, as described by Wiki:
"Back on the ship, Kirk commends Scotty. Spock expresses curiosity to Kirk and McCoy as to why the slave "Sun" worshipers seemed to adhere to a philosophy of peace; again incorrectly, Spock says that in most societies sun-worship is a primitive religion of superstition, with no philosophy behind it. Uhura, who's been monitoring radio transmissions from the planet, informs them that the worshippers are actually referring to a "Son," rather than "Sun," as in, "the Son of God." Kirk replies in realization: "Caesar ... and Christ; they had them both," referring to a historical figure of war, and a historical, messianic figure of peace, making obvious note of the continued parallels of this planet's history to Earth history. Kirk remarks that it would be interesting to observe this period of time on the planet below."
I love it!
Also "The City on the Edge of Forever"
Thanks Jess for the update!
And Jess... the poster is by the same artist that created the "inspirational" poster of Kirk (my hands down favorite!) that you had just posted. Those, and a lot more are found Here, but a warning, some things can get a bit "blue" on this site.
Here is another one of my favorite "inspirational" posters.

Alas, if they only sold them full size! |

Oh, Hal, definitely!
The City on the Edge of Forever would be the number one episode if not for the last scene on Bread and Circuses. It was one of the first multi-part television shows as well. The other is "Let That Be Your last Battlefield." |

JessIAm - Tell me more about the remastering of the original series. I would love to get my hands on something that is not scratchy. Cathy - I loved the doomsday machine I just watched the episode where Kirk goes into real high speed mode. Very imaginitive.. One of the first shows I saw was Arena where Kirk battles this reptilian captain. He had to create weapons from his knowledge of science. Gene - You are correct, the Menangerie was the only 2 parter. It was episodes 11 & 12 aired in 11/17/1966 & 11/24/1966 (at least according to my spreadsheet). *grin* |

| Gene! ROFL !
Salt Monster (Man Trap) filmed 6th but played the first week I believe. A weird effect hardly ever seen -Watch the phaser scene where the phaser victim has his speech slowed waaaay dooooown!
Another cool thing about "Menagerie" is that it was fashioned from the show's pilot episode. Recycling a first back then I think!
Cool Beans!
Scratchy, eh?
TOS is still being sold on DVD for cut rate prices....used to be 100$ a season.... now the whole thing is under 80$ on sale.
Eyes getting heavy... must go to sleep......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz |

I am a trekkie!! I admit it. Can't wait for the new film! A few months ago I DVR'd all the original Star Trek episodes from TV Land. I think I have been through them all now. I can't pick a certain episode as a fav - I liked the joking, tension, comaraderie between the three main characteries. BTW - those posters are hilarious! I like the movie Galaxy Quest, too. It spoofs sci fi, which is part of the fun. I am also impressed with the sci fi technology when I watch some of those old ST episodes. Did art create reality in some of these cases? Another thought- Does anyone else notice all the recycling of stories that go back to Start Trek? I saw an episode from ST that had a big ring that took people to different times in history - like Stargate!

I don't know if I'm a trekkie, because I don't own any Spock ears. I'm looking forward to the movie too.
Have you been watching the refurbished Start Treks? They've been remaking the the special effects with computer generated images of the Enterprise and the other starships. It's pretty cool.
Galaxy Quest was awesome. I need to rent it again. |

I didn't know anything about the refurbished series. I didn't know some other factoids in these comments, so maybe I should modify my trekkie status. I was born on the day it debuted on TV and I have always enjoyed the show(s) - especially the movies. I also watched Next Gen and Voyager pretty faithfully. I am a Trekkie (ish) person.. lol Thanks for bringing some light hearted blogs to MyChurch. Fun! |
