| | Day 3 Current mood: happy Category: Religion and Philosophy Day 3... I read Gen. 29-40:11. Yes I stopped mid-chapter. No I don't feel bad about it. It will be read tomorrow. In reading these passages, I find it amazing how patient God must be with stupid people. For someone who had a vision from God, Jacob wasn't all that bright. He works for seven years to get a wife only to be thwarted on his wedding night and end up with the ugly sister. How did he not know? Then he had to work another seven years for the one he really wanted. Now he has two wives. Its hard enough to keep one happy...just kiddin' sweetie . Then his wives make him sleep with their servants. He must have been crazy. It must have been a fun family to go out to dinner with. Apparetly his children carried the not quite so bright genes too. Judah sleeps with his daughter-in-law and doesn't know it, and Joseph tells his brothers his dreams of lordship over them. That ends up being good, but it was dumb at the time. Again these stories of God's first chosen people make you believe that God really can use anybody to make His name known. If the book of Genesis doesn't prove the sovereignty of God...I don't know what does. In some of the passages I have to just laugh because of the situations these people got themselves into...God is definitely a merciful God |
