Day 5

So Day 5 was a couple of days ago...but I was out of town with no computer. Sorry. The reading for day 5 was Exodus 1:1-15:18. It covers the opression of Israel through the crossing of the Red Sea.

I guess the thing that stands out most to me in these chapters is how relentless God is in His judgement of Pharoah and all of Egypt and how equally relentless He is in the salvation of His people. The judgement of the wicked and the salvation of His chosen people happen at one and the same time. They both culminate in the death of Pharoah's (and many other's) firstborn son. I don't think it would be a stretch to say that the same thing happened at the cross with the death of God's only son, Jesus. In His death the wicked are judged and His chosen people are saved. Isn't it amazing how God showed His people what their future Savior would do for them?

The book of Exodus seems to picture God as the ultimate warrior, especially in His defense of them at the Red Sea. There's a song about it in Exodus 15. Please read it . God establishes Himself in His people's eyes as the God who delivers them and fights for them. Isn't He the Almighty God, El-Shaddai? Who can stand before His power? Not even the most powerful man in the world, at that time Pharoah, and God demonstrated that to the entire world. This is the God we have as our King!
