Day 6 Category: Religion and Philosophy Day 6 was yesterday, and, again, I'm sorry for the lateness...The reading for day 6 was Exodus 15:19-28:43. These passages cover some of the grumblings of Israel against God, the giving of the Law, and the instruction for the Tabernacle and its furnishings. I'm going to concentrate on the first one. The first thing that the Israelites do, when they get on the road again, is whine and complain about not having water to drink. I probably would have to, being out in the desert with no water and all. But God graciously gave them sweet water from bitter, and after declaring that He is the God who heals them, takes them to an oasis where there was plenty of water. The next complaint was "we don't got no stinkin' food and we hongry" (paraphrase from the Zachalicious version of the Old Testament). So what did God do? He gave them manna in the morning and Quail at night. Isn't God a patient God? They acted like He hadn't ever done anything for them...after rescuing them from Egypt. I'm starting to get the feeling that this is a very rebelious people. The next thing you know they're whining about water again. Why? Has God not already proven that He is going to care for them? So this time God gives them water from a rock. Wow! a rock! The very next thing that happens is that they get attacked by the Amalekites. Do you think there's any correlation there? They did defeat the Amalekites by God's working through the arms of Moses, but I think this is probably the first time that any of them had to fight for themselves. (just a side thing...in verse 16 it says" The Lord will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation." How scary is that?) How patient He is when He deals with His people |
