Day 8 Category: Religion and Philosophy Day 8 is finally here...yea (yells excitedly). This day is so special because it is the beginning of the second week and, more importantly, the start of (drum roll please) LEVITICUS!!!!!!!! The reading for day 8 was Lev.1:1-14:32. Ok, so if I'm being honest, Leviticus really isn't that much fun. The first 7 chapters deal with all of the different offerings/sacrifices, chapters 8-10 deal with the priestly function and chapters 11-14 deal with a bunch of different ways you can be unclean and a few ways to get clean again. Again, Leviticus is a great plug for study bibles. The one I am using for this reading program is not . In reading these chapters, I decided that I would never have been a good priest. There is a lot of killing and putting blood on things with your fingers and I think I would just puke. One interesting question for you...why are the sin offering for priests and entire community of Israel and leaders of the people a bull and the sin offering for an individual a female goat? Any thoughts would be welcome . God spelled every little detail out for them, and they still couldn't keep His commands. He did things that way to show us how utterly helpless we are to become holy and righteous on our own, but even in the Old Testament sacrificial system His grace is apparent because they didn't have their sin held against them. It was placed on an animal instead of them. God is gracious. |
