Day 9 Current mood: content Category: Religion and Philosophy The reading for day 9 was Lev. 14:33-26:13. There are a lot of very specific laws about very interesting things in this passage of scriputre, most of which I would not feel comfortable talking about in mixed company (blushing). Guidelines for cleansing various and sundry disgusting things and laws against sexual immorality, etc., but I found something I thought very interesting at the end of the list of thou shalt not have sex with this or that or him or her. In chapter 18 verses 24 and 25 God says "Do not defile yourselves by any of these things; for by all these the nations which I am casting out before you have become defiled. For the land has become defiled, therefore I have brought its punishment upon it, so the land has spewed out its inhabitants." Now read through the list and see if you can't think of a time, at least once (except for maybe the one about Molech), where you have heard about every one of those things being done. What does that say for our society? How great would it be if we still had a year of Jubilee? God doesn't let deformed priests come into His presence. Someone please give me a count on how many times God says "I am the Lord your God." I wish Christians would do what verse 35 of chapter 25 says. The blessings for obedience are awesome, especially "I will walk among you and be your God, and you shall be my people." Thats my favorite . Unrelated note, this has been a good exercise in accountability for me when it comes to actually reading my bible. Thank you to everyone helping to keep me thus. |
