| | Day 11 Current mood: awed Category: awed Religion and Philosophy The reading for day 11 was Numbers 8:5-21:9. You would think that, after a couple of times of being punished, the people of Israel would stop whining and complaining...but no, they don't. I've come to the conclusion that this first generation of people that came out of Egypt have to be the dumbest group of people to ever walk the earth. How many times does God have to show you something miraculous before you believe that He can do what He says? I guess that we are just as bad though. We just seem smarter because most of the time we aren't stupid on the grand scale that they were. Still we are pretty dumb to...go ahead, admit it, you're a dumb dumb head . It's amazing that the earth hasn't swallowed me up; God is indeed merciful and kind. In chapter 15, we again have the offering/sacrifice for unintentional sins. Its very interesting to me that if the community sins they are to offer a bull and a male goat, but if an individual sins he is to offer a female goat. Why the distinction? This is my idea, and please, feel free to correct or enlighten me. I think that it has to do with the covenental arrangement. For instance: when Dathan and Abiram are swallowed up because of their rebellion, their families suffer along with them. They are the covenental heads of their households and so are responsible for what goes on in said households. Likewise, as is the case with us in Adam, the families are represented in the headship of the men (part of the body) and so are guilty of their sin along with them. hope that made sense ...Anyway, as a community they are included under the headship of the leaders, when they sin individually they are like the weaker partner in the covenant. Like Paul says "In Adam all died, but in Christ all are made alive" (not an exact quote). Today Christ is the head, if he were to sin we would all be guilty in Him, but since he does not, cannot sin, we are made holy through his righteousness. If we sin individually it doesn't bring guilt on Him, but since he has made atonement already, we no longer have to have something die for us. I don't know if I'm making sense or not, but there you go . If there is anything you would like me to clear up please let me know and if there is anything you can clear up please do. |
