Day 18 Current mood: tired Category: Religion and Philosophy The reading for day 18 was Judges 4:1-15:20. I gotta tell ya, its amazing how kind and patient God is with these people. I mean, its like a broken record. They sin, God punishes, they cry out because of their oppression, God rescues them, it starts again, but God is determined to keep His covenant with their forefathers. Its a good thing for everyone that I am not God. I am definitely not patient enough . How many of you thought Saul was the first king of Israel? Come on, don't be shy, lets see that hand. Well you were wrong. Abimelech was the first king (see Judges chapter 9). In this section of scripture, the most prominent stories are those of Gideon, Jephthah, and Samson. Gideon was a weenie, Jephthah was rash, and Samson was a hothead. Its amazing what kind of people God uses. Gideon needs 4 seperate signs before he believes that God will be with him (how many would I have needed?). Jephthah makes a vow to God that leaves him having to sacrifice his only daughter (and apparently God did not stop him from fulfilling this vow, see verse 39 of chapter 11). Samson got mad at his wife and killed a bunch of people. These were the mighty heroes God used to free His people, amazing isn't it? I just want to point out that a man named Dodo made it into scripture . So far we have Nimrod and Dodo, whats next? I don't think I want anyone to call me Dodo though. I hope you come away from this feeling as enlightened as I do. Seriously though, I hope you do enjoy reading my blog. I promise that I will eventually try to have something even slightly substantial to say. But until then, you get this . Until next time... |
