| Our Heavenly Parent |

I read my friend's blog this morning and it reminded me of a major revelation (for me anyway) God pointed out to me one day during a conversation I was having with Him. He told me to better understand His heart, think about my relationship, as a parent, with my children.
We quickly forgive our children when they say they are sorry and ask for our forgiveness. It is instantaneous. So does God.
We want them to do the right thing, as we have instructed them, because they chose to do it, not because we forced them. So does God.
We see one of our children persistently heading in a direction that we know will cause them great pain if they hit that wall. But after imparting wisdom to them over and over and over again, because we love them, we understand that the only way they are going to get it is to let them hit that wall. But we are there to wrap our arms around them, pick them up and tell them we love them, no matter what. So does God. (For me, this answered the question: Why do bad things happen to good people?)
We have a wonderful surprise waiting for them, but are waiting for them to get a clue about a particular attitude or behavior. We are so excited and can't wait to see the joy and excitement on their faces when we give it to them. But they are not there yet, so we patiently wait. So does God.
The list of these kinds of comparisons can go on and on. God is, after all, our Father. This revelation has helped me "get a clue" countless times. Does this ring a bell with anyone else? If so, I would love to hear from you. |
