| | Day 22 Current mood: happy Category: Religion and Philosophy The reading for day 22 was 1Samuel 29:1- 2Samuel 12:31. This portion of scripture covers gthe death of Saul to David's sin with Bathsheba. David was a man of war. I think that makes us uncomfortable. God calls David a "man after my own heart." Througout the Old Testament, God is seen as a warrior. We don't like that. We want God to be love, and that be the end. God is love...period. David was a bloody man, a man after God's own heart. What does this tell us about our God? I think it tells us that God is, first and foremost, a holy God, and when he bathes his sword in the blood of the nations, it is to purge His world of evil. We don't like that; that makes God scary. We like to think happy thoughts of "be still and know that I am God", but we don't like the aftermath of His being God. We want to remake God in our fluffy image instead of the King of kings that He is. We don't really know what the scripture means when it says "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." How many of us have ever been afraid of God's holy presence? I would question whether we have really had a taste of His glory or like Isaiah we would say "Woe is me! I am undone!" When was the last time you felt "undone"? anyway... I know that didn't have much to do with this portion of scripture...but thats what you get. Sorry |
