We haven't even left yet, and God has thoroughly convinced me He is already at work. I am more excited now than I have ever been for this trip.
About 4PM my cell phone rings. It's Kris Keating, the guy from IL that is going with us. "Wink (I guess some people will always call me that), where are you?" he said. I replied, "In my house in Mississippi. Where are you?" His answer made me cringe, "Miami International Airport." Turns out he had booked flights for the wrong day.
You've got to know Kris to understand the next part. He wasn't worried at all. He just said he would get a hotel in Santiago and meet us at the airport there tomorrow. "No sweat." So, near-panic sets in with me. I was wondering if I had bought the wrong day, too. Did we miss our flight?
I rushed to the church to double check our information and on my way the phone rings again. "Wink, you're not going to believe this. They just announced that they overbooked this flight and are asking for people to volunteer to fly out tomorrow. And they are offering $800 in airline vouchers. I'm in the line to volunteer."
10 minutes later he calls back. "Got it. I am on the flight with you guys tomorrow. Free hotel. 3 free meals. $800 in travel vouchers." "AMEN" I said.
If this doesn't get you going, something is wrong.

Last night's "Dad's night out with the kids" was a ton of fun. Many memories were made and I am sure all of us are pretty sleepy this morning. On the drive home, while trying to stay awake, I wrote a little song about our night. It's to the tune of "take me out to the ballgame" and in the key of B#. Wanna hear it? Here it goes. All 3 verses. And a 1...And a 2...
Sophie went to a ballgame with some dads and some kids she ate some hotdogs and dippin' dots then threw up on the floor of the bus and when Isaac went to get ice cream he fell and busted his knee and the paramedics were called in to stop the bleed.
Rawson fielded a foul ball before he even sat down Francoeur was called back to the big show Youngsy blasted a two run homerun When the game was tied in the ninth frame our girls soon started the wave then a run scored on a sac fly and we won the game
I was driving the church bus on our way back to home they all were sleeping but I was not I'm not sure if that's true or that's not cause there's not one thing I remember from Pearl to I-59 But the one thing the mammas must know is that we survived.

A rare thing occured last night...I cooked supper for my family. To make a rare thing even more rare, I decided to do it over an open fire out in the yard. After I built our little fire, the family joined me out in the dark under the stars. It was a beautiful scene and very peacful. Then, my thoughts were swept away to the events of Maundy Thursday. As I watched that fire burn I couldn't help but think of Peter. On that very night 2000 years ago, he stood by a fire to warm himself while the Lord was wrongfully accused. Then, when questioned by a slave-girl, he denied that he was one of Jesus' followers.
Until then I wasn't sure where the idea of cooking over a fire came from. Now I know it came from God to focus my thoughts and challenge me in my own devotion to Christ.
