Magnificent Mysteries
By||December 24, 2008

It's not our job to take the Bible's mysterious stories and make sense of them, to get rid of the strangeness or the unpredictability. If a story is mysterious, then the church needs to practice being mystified, not jump as quickly as possible to some explanation that removes all the shadows as well as the light. This quote hits home for me.  First, it reminds me to practice and remain mystified.  The Lord is amazing.  His Word is awesome, literally.  Those of us who are "mature" Christians sometimes forget the wonderment and the greatness of the Word.  Secondly, this quote assures me that it's OKAY not to understand it all.  In fact, I'm not supposed to understand it all.  My nature is to find the logic in things and figure out the HOW and the WHY in things.  But there are some things that I just can't explain, and it's okay.  God is so amazing and awesome, and yes mysterious, that I will never fully understand it all.  If I COULD understand it all, then that would put God on an equal plane with us mere humans.  My Lord is so much more than that!  I have faith that He will reveal to me what I need to know and understand.
