What I love about this church...

Wow! That nomination speech for Rev. Hay to be entered into the National Woman's Hall of Fame was amazing. I always knew that we had a very special and genuine person shepherding our congregation, but it was great to hear all that she has done. It surprised me that we have the first female minister within the Presbyterian church here in Rochester and no one really knows it. Rev. Hay may have to clarify that distinction a bit for me, but none the less it's impressive.

I know that hearing that definitely made we want to reach out into the community and share her message with a few more neighbors. Let's continue to build up Calvary St. Andrews as a spiritual foundation for our neighborhoods continued resurgence!

CSA is a spiritual, welcoming and fun place to worship. We are so glad we "found" our church home six years ago. We feel blessed to be members of CSA.

Just a reminder to all you Wedge residents to be vigilant about keeping your doors locked up and not leaving anything of value outside. Last week someone entered our home between 1:30 and 6:30am and stole nearly all of my power tools worth over $2000. I don't know if this is part of a larger trend, but be sure to bring any unsusual activity to the attention of the police. This is the fourth time in less than two year that something has been stolen from my property in one form or another. I think, technically, I am out of cheeks to turn... now what ;-) I can't wait to rid this part of the city of the criminals who tarnish the good name of the Wedge. Keep your eyes peeled!

I got an email today. You could try her at home, or send an email. She checks religiously, no pun intended (well, maybe just a little pun)!

I just wanted to post a follow up to my last post. My grandmother died at 1:30am Saturday morning at the age of 96. I'd appreciate it if you could keep her and my family in your prayers.

Just wanted to post a prayer request for my grandmother. She's 96 and was diagnosed with colon cancer a few days ago. It looks like she won't make it through the weekend. Kristin and I will most likely miss the next two Sunday services.

Thanks,  Ben

The Shawl Ministry of CSA began in the Fall of 2006 by Nancy Lauterbach who organized a group of parishioners to share their talents in needle work in order to provide support and comfort to those in need. The purpose of the Shawl Ministry is to knit shawls with intentional thought and prayer for the recipients. Members gather several times per month to work on knitting projects, share fellowship, and to pray for those who will receive the shawls. The shawls are blessesd by the Pastor, usually during a special worship service before they are given to recipients. Members of the congregation may request shawls for themselves or for others who are in eed of special comfort and healing due to on-going or prolonged medical, personal, or emotional issues. The Shawl Ministry members decide upon the recipients from those who are nominated. Recipients do not have to be members of CSA, but priority is given to those who have a strong connection to the congregation and those in greatest need. Recipients are visited by two or more members of the ministry. The shawl is wrapped and presented with a card and blessing as witness to the intentional prayer and support offered by the parish and Shawl Ministry members. The Shawl Ministry always welcomes new members and experienced knittes are always available to teach those who wish to learn to knit and to become part of this outreach ministy of Calvary St. Andrews.
