What We Believe
The Bible is the Word of God. By that we mean that God gave the human writers of the Scriptures exactly what he wanted them to write. While the writers used their own distinct style and words, the Lord guided their thoughts and words so that they wrote what he wanted them to communicate. That makes the Bible a unified message by only one author. Since the author is God, the Bible has no error and is completely reliable for guiding our faith and our life. Furthermore, since the Bible is the Word of the author of all life, its message is as relevant for our age as it has been for every age.

The two main teachings of the Bible are the law and the gospel.  The law of God plays no favorites. It condemns us all. It is perhaps why some don’t like the Bible. It demonstrates that we are all sinners, that is, we all fall short of what God expects of us. Because of that we deserve nothing from God. We deserve to be cut off from God forever.

God’s gospel shows him as a God of faithful love who doesn’t want us to be cut off from him forever. To fulfill his love, he took on himself the punishment our sins deserve. Jesus is the Son of God, the God from all eternity, who became human just like we are so he could do for us what we could not do. He kept God’s holy law perfectly. Then God placed on his perfect Son all of the sins of the world and punished him in our place. Jesus is called the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. The altar on which the Lamb of God was sacrificed was a cross, a Roman implement for torture and execution. All this Jesus did willingly because of his great love for us.

This is the basics of our belief and God’s love for all people. There is much more to learn. Contact us for more information or to ask a question about our faith.

Adults
Seeing Christ in the Old Testament
In church with Professor Korthals

Jesus said: "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.  I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished" (Matthew 5:17-18). With those words Jesus reminds us that the Old Testament points to him. In this Bible Class we will look at some of the Old Testament passages that show us Jesus as the promised Messiah, our Savior.

Zechariah
In School with David Martin

Zechariah focuses on life from a perspective that extends beyond history and time--peering both into the immediate and far distant future. While the book centers around the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem after the 70 year Babylonian captivity, it also foretells the coming of the Messiah to suffer and later reign as King over all creation. This compelling study is for anyone interested in studying God's active involvement in the lives of his people in past, present and future times.

Teen Bible Study
Heaven and Hell
In the Parish Center with Mr. Giddings
People often fear the unknown and for many people thinking of death brings these fears.  What happens after we die?  What does the Bible tell us about what comes next?  The teens will be looking at what the Bible teaches us about heaven and hell and why we can be confident that heaven will be our eternal home. Learning about hell and being seperated from God for eternity also serves as a good reminder to why sharing God's message of salvation is so important.
