I have been brought up in the church all my life. When I was born to my mother and father, I was baptized as a baby in the Catholic church. I was Catholic up until I was 7 years old when my parents decided to change denominations. We began attending a small Baptist church in the northeast side of Houston (mi barrio). The church was bilingual (this is where I learned to read, write and speak Spanish), very strict & conservative, especially when it came to worship and dancing. I was baptized again there at 12. We continued attending this church until I was 18. During those years, I would visited Lakewood Church at the first and second locations. I really loved the worship and message there. At 18 we started to attend an Assembly of God church. This place was filled with the Holy Spirit, very similar to Lakewood. Moving to the worship music, lifting your hands to praise God, speaking in tongues…it was okay and I loved it! I continued attending this church until I got married. My husband was not the church going type, so I got away from the Lord and my marriage failed. I was very angry with God and myself for a few years, but later went back to the same church, found God, found my calling and found my new husband - this time he was the church going type…I got it right this time Lord (lol). I introduced him to Lakewood and we became members shortly. We’ve been married since 2003 and God has blessed us with three beautiful girls.
Currently, I attend Lakewood when I can, otherwise I watch Joel on TV. I call it my church home because I feel I’m home when I’m there, my heavenly home that is, with all my family, even those that have left this earth. There is no other worship service in the world like it! It is a very anointed church and I truly am blessed when I attend or watch. The other church my husband and I have been attending with the girls is the Metropolitan Baptist Church (themetonline.org). They have a lot of activities for children and families. It’s very close to our home and the pastor always has a great message from the Bible.
