I Can't Help Myself by Van Zant
I've been lost in the darkness for so long I can't see the light I've been strung out, burned, left out, and hung out to dry. So I say to myself that I wanna get better Hidin' from the truth, I can't last forever
Chorus Jesus help me Obviously, I can't help myself I've got nobody else Send me an Angel Someone to strangle That ol' demon that's haunting me there on the shelf I can't help myself.
My excuses are so old and tired, hell I forgot 'em I keep fallin' and crawlin' and drownin' down here on the bottom Yeah I pushed back my brothers said good-bye to my friends When you get in this deep the hell never ends
Chorus Jesus help me Obviously, I can't help myself I've got nobody else Send me an Angel Someone to strangle That ol' demon that's haunting me there on the shelf I can't help myself
Give me a reason to live; show me a sign I'm on the edge; goin' out of my mind I'm down on my knees; I'm beggin' you please make me somebody else I can't help myself I need something stronger, pour it all over me
Partial Chorus Send me an Angel Someone to strangle that ol' demon 'Cause you know that I never will I can't help myself Lord, I can't help myself.
=============================================================== Been There, Done That by Van Zant
I've seen the devil, Stared him straight in the eyes. Danced in his fire on my darkest nights. Laid in his garden an' I drank his wine. Slept with temptation to laugh at salvation: It almost ate me alive.
Oh, I've been there done that, had my thrill: Ain't goin' back again. I was the life of every party, It nearly did me in. I was the baddest man you've ever seen, Lord, I wrote the book on sin. Yeah, I been down that road, I ain't goin' back again.
I caused more damage than a hurricane. I broke your heart an' didn't feel a thing. (I walked.) Then walked away and cursed your name in vain. (Cursed your name.) But with you as my witness, You gave me forgiveness, Now I've got a second chance.
Oh, I've been there done that, had my thrill: Ain't goin' back again. I was the life of every party, It nearly did me in. I was the baddest man that you've ever seen, Lord, I wrote the book on sin. Yeah, I been down that road.
He's knockin' at my door, Ain't walkin' round here no more. Been there, done that, Ain't goin' back again, no!
I was the baddest mother that you've ever seen, Lord, I wrote the book on sin. Been there, done that, Ain't goin' back again.
I was the life of every party, It nearly did me in. I was the baddest man that you've ever seen, Lord, I wrote the book on sin. Yeah, I been down that road. I ain't goin' back again,Oh, no!
Been there, done that.I was the life of the party, yeah. (Been there, done that.)

We Can't Do It Alone by Van Zant
I wear this cross ‘cause I believe He shed His precious blood so I’d be saved. And Daddy had a gold one just like me And when he died he wore it to his grave He said don’t you cry son ‘cause in the long run We’ll all be together again
CHORUS ‘Cause we’re all God’s children Sinners tryin’ to make it to the light Ain’t no easy livin’ So hold on to one another We’re all sister, we’re all brothers Just tryin’ to find our way back home You know we can’t do it alone Now I see the world through my child’s eyes And I wonder where it’s all gonna go Things are hard, these are troubled times You know the devil’s always tryin’ to steal your soul And the older I get the more I see that More love is always what we need
CHORUS ‘Cause we’re all God’s children Sinners tryin’ to make it to the light Ain’t no easy livin’ So hold on to one another We’re all sister, we’re all brothers Just tryin’ to find our way back home You know we can’t do it alone No one can be that strong We can’t make it on our own We can’t do it alone
CHORUS ‘Cause we’re all God’s children Sinners tryin’ to make it to the light Ain’t no easy livin’ So hold on to one another We’re all sister, we’re all brothers Just tryin’ to find our way back home You know we can’t do it alone

He’s Alive
Oh yeah, all right I do believe in you more than myself I can depend on you when I need help So when I tell you, please understand That I do love you, love you man to man
Oh yeah, all right I remember oh so well when the times were bad If I needed anything, you'd give me all you had And when the troubles came you were by my side You said use God as your guide my son don't you know He's alive, He's alive
Oh yeah But now you have gone and I'm on my own But I realize one thing, one man is never alone But I wish that you were here right by my side I would love to tell you that I know He's alive, He’s alive Oh yeah, all right Ain't Too Proud To Pray
I heard a voice and saw the face and I know He was there. The road that flowed around my bed and I felt no pain. You can talk about the help you need. He’s a friend indeed, just open your heart and let Him walk in and He will set you free We’ll it took them away All the troubles and the pain Oh Ooh You can call me a fool but I know He was there Yes I know He was there The night I had has long since gone But the memory stayed And now Mr. Trouble when you come my way I’m not too proud to pray Yes He took them away All the troubles and the pain Oh Ooh you can call me a fool But I know He was there Yes I know He was there Well it took them away all the troubles and the pain Oh you can call me a fool but I know He was there Yes I know He was there The night I had has long since gone but the memory stayed And now Mr. Trouble when you come my way I’m not too proud to pray
Four Walls of Raiford
Well them four walls of Raiford, closing in on me Doin' three to five hard labor, for armed robbery I had two years behind, but I could not wait the time Everytime I thought about it, well I died some more inside
And I had stripes on my back, memories that hurt For the only time I seen sunshine is when I hit the dirt Diggin ditches for the chain gang, sleepin in the cold Oh lord please forgive me for I could not wait no more
And I comin' home to see you jesus Well it feels so close this time Please take mercy on this soldier From the Florida-Georgia line
When they find me they must kill me Oh jesus save my soul I cant go back down to Raiford I cant take that anymore
Well these last few years behind me Oh lord, have been so sad I fought proudly for my country when the times were bad Now they say Im guilty, when they find me I must die Only me and jesus know that I never stole a dime
Well when Vietnam was over there was no work here for me I had a pretty wife awaitin and two kids I had to feed Well Im one of americas heroes and when they shoot me down Wont fly old glory proudly, put my medals in the ground
And I comin home to see you jesus Well it feels so close this time Please take mercy on this soldier From the Florida-Georgia line
When they find me they must kill me Oh jesus save my soul I cant go back down to Raiford I cant take that anymore
***NOTE*** The Four Walls of Raiford was written for Ronnie Van Zants life long friend and Body Guard, Gene Odom's brother that was serving time at Raiford.
Mama (Afraid to Say Goodbye)
She'd wake us up early every mornin' She'd help us say our prayers every night She was always there to help us through the hard times We could count on her to make everything alright
I remember swingin on the front porch Papa said theres somethin I need to say tonight Mamas been sick for a long time Lets pray to God she can make it through the night
(chorus) Mama I don't wanna say goodbye She said wipe those tears from your eyes Mama I don't wanna say goodbye It was written in the heavens and the skies above Son I gave you birth showed you all my love I can't think of this life without you its hard to try Mama I'm afraid to say goodbye
Now kids I've been hangin on a long time I hate to leave this world before your grown Remember everything that I've taught you Remember all the good times when I'm gone
(repeat chorus)
She whispered in my ear before she passed away Son its time to be a man ain't nothin' left to say Jesus walked on water I know its true When it comes time to call you home I hope your ready too

Hello Everyone,
My name is Barry McGarrh. I am State Certified through the Indiana Prison System as a volunteer working in ministry within the various Indiana Prison Facilities. I have been working in jail and prison ministry on a regular basis for over five years with the Christian Motorcyclists Association. I have been further trained by the CMA and I am on the CMA's Prison Ministry Team. I work in all levels of Prison from lower level to the higher security levels were they are serving life sentences.
The Lord has brought into my life events that has allowed me to put together a program that has proven to be very effective on touching men and women's hearts called "Freebird's Last Flight". Here is the history of "Freebird's Last Flight" presentation and how it got started -- God has orchestrated some associations that very much complement my personal testimony and life. God placed on my heart going on two years ago to study the history of the Southern Rock Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd. Most of you will know that Lynyrd Skynyrd is a band that is known around the world performing for crowds as large as 250,000 back in the 70's. The band was formed by several friends from Jacksonville, FL, but the main person responsible for the band was Ronnie Van Zant. He was the lead singer. Lynyrd Skynrd is not your normal run-of-the-mill rock 'n roll band with questionable lyrics. They wrote songs that were inspiring and in relation to their own life, memories and problems that they had been through. In October of 1977 tragedy struck the band when a plane crash took the lives of three of the band members, including Ronnie Van Zant. The band dismantled for 10 years but in 1987 the band resurrected again with Ronnie Van Zant's youngest brother, Johnny Van Zant. Another brother, Donnie Van Zant, had already been successful with his well known band, .38 Special. These are the two remaining brothers, Johnny and Donnie Van Zant. Today, Johnny is still the lead singer for Lynyrd Skynyrd and Donnie is still leading his group, .38 Special. In the off time of their respective groups the two brothers come together and sing as "Van Zant". Their label for their music is "Southern Rock/Country/Christian".
Since my original prompting to study Lynyrd Skynyrd, God has allowed me to be in association with Johnny and Donnie Van Zant, Jimmy Van Zant, along with Charlie Daniels, thru the Van Zant's cousin, Jane Van Zant. As I have gotten to know these men -- I have been able to combine their stories along with my personal testimony and a Gospel message that very much affects those serving time. The men and women that I have been able to share this program with have taken an immediate interest when I mention Lynyrd Skynyrd and the story of Ronnie Van Zant and his brothers, Johnny and Donnie. With that interest, I am able to give the tragic history and story, but more currently -- the redeeming Grace through Jesus that Johnny and Donnie Van Zant have discovered and sing about.
Through all of this my wife and I have also become friends with Jo Jo Billingsley. Jo Jo was one of the original band members. She was the only person that was not on the plane when it crashed. You can read her testimony on her letter presented on the front page of "MySpace". I have also come in contact with Charlie Daniels and have his "stamp of approval" on this Prison Ministry. I have posted his letter that he has written for me to share with those who are incarcerated. Charlie was one on Ronnie Van Zant's closest friends in the music world.
My program is entitled, "Freebird's Last Flight", named after Lynyrd Skynyrd's second most popular song "Free Bird". Their number one song was "Sweet Home Alabama" that most have heard on the airways throughout the years. My program has a powerful Gospel message that presents salvation and the loving message of God's love for mankind.
