| I was raised in Bellevue - when it was only a spot on the map. I was the third of five children with seven years between my odest brother and me and 7 years between my younger sister and me. Truly a middle child- I was born in the middle of the century, in the middle of the month in the middle of the day, and became the middle child. I graduated from Sammamish High School in 1967 and attended Azusa Pacific College from 1967-68, worked a year and then went to Seattle Pacific College until I was married in 1970 to my first husband, Bruce Christensen. We lived in Anchorage, Alaska from June until October of 1970, when we moved back to Bellevue. During the 7 years of our marriage we had two sons, Eric, in 1971, and Andrew, in 1974. I had attended Westminster Chapel in Bellevue since 1964. In 1978, having been divorced for a year, I was going to the "college/career" class at church and going to their social functions. There were several of us adults - single parents and older singles- who didn't fit in the category of "college/career", so we decided to start a single adult fellowship. Our first social gathering was on the 4th of July at the lake home of one of our members. She worked at the Issaqual School District and had invited a guy who also worked there to come. That turned out to be Darrel, and that's where we met. We got to know each other and did things together with my boys until I was transferred with my job to Wyoming in August. The miles apart didn't stop Darrel from pursuing me. He was relentless, and by May of '79 he had worn me down and we decided to get married. He left his job and moved to Wyoming. We went to Las Vegas and had a nice little wedding at 1:00 in the morning on June 11, 1979. in April of 1980 our son BJ (now "Ben") was born. We lived in Rock Springs,WY until 1983 when we moved back to Washington and lived near Leavenworth. Jobs were few and far between, so after a year we decided that Darrel should go out to New York, stay with his mom until he could find a job there. He found a job within 2 weeks and the kids and I moved back there 10 weeks later. We lived in Syracuse for 18 years. In 2002 we moved back here to be near the kids who had all moved back after high school. Eric and Andy both are married and each have 2 sons. I'm still praying for that special girl for Ben - and so is he! (so if you know of a nice girl who's looking too....) I'm so grateful to God for bringing us back here. I see His hand so clearly in the difference it's made in our lives spiritually - the people He's put in our lives, and the ministries He's drawn us to that wouldn't have happened had we remained in New York. My life verse has always been Philippians 1:6 , "Being confident of this very thing: that He who began a good work in you will complete it until the Day of Christ Jesus." How very true this verse has turned out to be, and is continuing to be. | | Interests Grandmother to 4 boys, ages 8,7,6 and 4. I have learned how to quilt in the past few years and enjoy it immensely. I also do needlework- counted cross-stitch every once in awhile. I usually have about 3-4 books going at the same time, so it takes me awhile to finish one. Studying the Bible has always been one of my favorite things to do and I love to share the things God teaches me. Darrel bought me a dictionary of the words in the Old Testament for Christmas, finishing off my set. So I've been having fun diving into word studies in the Psalms. In June of 2006, God led me to help start a Healing Room in Bellingham, part of the Healing Rooms of Spokane. We opened in November of that year and I've worked along side the Director since then as her associate director. I'm so grateful for being part of this ministry and the lives that have been touched through it. | | Movies | MusicAs a teenager I listened to the pop music of the 50's and 60's, but I had a particular love of folk music. I owned every album by Peter Paul and Mary and learned how to harmonize by listening to them and singing along. I like almost any kind of music except for jazz, deep country - the nasally stuff- , rap, and hard rock. I love classical music, broadway musicals, and Gershwin. As far as Christian music, I think one of my favorites is Terry McAlmon. His kind of music draws me right to the Throne of God. another of my favorites is Don Potter, another extremely anointed musician. I also listen to a variety of other Christian artists, and like to listen and sing along to praise music. | BooksOf secular books, I particularly like mysteries. I try to read the light-hearted ones that are fun to read. There are some more intense ones I've enjoyed as well - especialy J A Jance. I love the ones that have a surprising twist! I also enjoy epics, where the story takes you through several generations. The best authors for those kind of stories are Catherine Cookson, Belva Plain and Barbara Bradford Taylor. Beverly Lewis is one of my favorite Christian fiction authors. I love all of the books about God I have listed here. Each one has touched and blessed me and caused me to grow. | | Television The Amazing Race - because it IS; American Idol - love to rate the talent; Jeopardy - keeps the mind sharp (?); Dancing with the Stars - love to see what they can do with 2 left feet and determination |
