At C3, those who know me, would know me best as Colin Hickman's mom. The rest of the world knows me as Linda--the short, Irish girl/lady (I guess I am reaching the "lady" age frame). The homeschooling, single mom who also trys to volunteer when she has the time.
One of my current volunteer stints is as the NoVa, MD, DC Metro Area ROCK Chapter Leader (ROCK = Raising Our Celiac Kids). We have a Yahoo Group. If you are a fellow ROCK parent, you can become a member by clicking here: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NoVa_MD_DC_Metro_Area_ROCK/ | | Interests Life now pretty much is focused on homeschooling my son and spending time with extended family. I also try to stay active in Celiac Disease groups and activites with the MS Society.
I am drawn to the water--ocean, lakes, rivers, etc. I guess it is the Irish blood. I have the traveling bug too--local or far away, camping to the spa--any place is fine as long as it gets me away from home. I must have some gypsy blood too, as I get restless when life gets too busy and I cannot get away. | | Movies I enjoy dramas mainly, also the classics. I see movies mostly when they are out of the theaters now. The cost to take the family to the movies is soo outragous now, I would rather spend less and rent or buy the movie instead. But, I also have been know to hit the 12 midnight openings for movies like Harry Potter and Star Wars with my son :) I teach a homeschool video/lit class for high schoolers where we read a book once a week and then watch the movie and discuss them. So, I get to watch lots of classics and non-traditional movies on a regular basis. | | Music Radio mainly--WGTS. Too technologically challenged (or is it lack of desire) for the whole iPod thing yet. | | Books Novels--mysteries or historical fiction; Non-fiction--spritual, parenting, teaching, or historical. I always several going at once.
A fellow homeschooler recently turned me on to www.paperbackswap.com
You can trade all your previously read paperpack books as well as hardcover books and audio blooks to other members. You earn credits to order someone else's books that look good to you. The only thing you pay for is the postage on the book you send out (about $2). So, for $2 you give new live to your book and get to pick a new one out to read for yourself. You can find my list of recently read books, pile of books to be read, my wishlist books and books I am passing on to know more about my book preferences. Just look for member: hopefaith (same as here)at www.paperbackswap.com!
| | Television I am a network Prime Time junkie--CSIs, NCIS, Lost, Heros.
My most favorite show now is Amazing Race. The travel and the tasks are cool, but if you don't figure out how to work well together with your teammate (usually a family member), you have no chance at winning. The cool thing is that even when the "losers" leave each week, they all talk about how the adventures and travels were cool, but the best part was getting to know their partner better and learing skills to improve the relationship. Weekends are mainly HGTV. TLC, Discovery, or Lifetime. |
