| Family Altar What is Family Altar?Family Altar is a time when we set apart as a family to come together in Gods presence. Its the time to get direction from God’s Word to steer our family vehicle in the way that God would desire us to move. An altar is a need in every Home. It is the Family altar that will alter the family. It is a common point to which every member of the family would come to pour out their hearts. An altar is not a visible structure, or a Pooja room. An altar is created when God’s people gather in one accord. So a family altar is created when we as a family come together in one accord, with one purpose to glorify God and spend time with the Creator. This is missing in many families because of our busy schedules, children’s school, studies, etc. Reasons can be innumerable for not meeting together. It needs conscious effort and discipline. There is a need to see this as a top priority in our daily routine. For many our morning bed coffee or our morning news paper is something that we cannot miss. Coming as a family to the altar of God should take that place of our newspaper or bed coffee. Why family altar? 1.It is the family altar that brings the family together with Christ as the centre. A Christ centered fellowship can be the only permanent binding force of the family. All other binding force can be broken easily and is temporary. Since Christ is the central focus, He gives us the Grace to forgive, forget, love one another etc. A family that prays together stays together. It is a place where we can even sort out our differences with one another with Christ as our mediator. So a family altar is a BINDING FORCE of the family.2. A family altar is a needed factor because, it helps us to listen to the voice of God and also pour out our hearts to Him as a family. A Christian Home will find solutions to many of their problems in the family altar time. Important decisions that a family has to take, Problems of any kind that the family is encountering, the right direction for the family to move, are many times revealed when the family sits together in the presence of the Lord. The Word of God is the central focus, as this is the complete revelation of God for His people. It is also the ideal time to submit our every kind of need at the altar of God.3. Family altar is a time that God longs to have, much more than us. The very purpose of God’s creation is to have fellowship with God’s people. Every family is a cell of God’s Kingdom. It is a miniature image of God’s Kingdom. Hence in every Christian family, Jesus is the King and the family members are the subjects. The King longs to spend time with all His subjects. He wants to direct them, guide them, give them His plan, listen to their worries and tensions and give them the needed resources to pull-on. But, if we, as His subjects don’t find time with Him, how can He direct us, listen to us, give us His resources??? These are some of the reasons as to why a Family altar should become the priority of every Home. If it hasn’t been your priority, make this your top priority today.
