Well, I was having a stressfull week with school and I had a BIG meltdown.  I just want to quit and not to do anything.  So, my mom and I had a big talk.  We talked about how well I was doing in school and how much I did over the years of my life and showing people who doubt me about doing main stream classes.  My mom praised me which is what I needed to hear.  I talked about how I want to be like Tricia acheiving everything and getting A's in everything.  I told mom that I wanted to go to a unveristity instead of RCTC.  Mom said she heard on the radio that students who go to communtity colleges, do way much better than the unversity students.  Mom said "Becca you are doing most wonderfull things in your life and you Will succeed in life."

I went to bed after that because I had a major test which didn't help, but I felt a lot calmer.  Hey it is the lord talking to me and I am really gratefull for that!

In the morning, mom came and woke me up, (I had a hard time getting up)  My mom reads the bible every morning.  That morning she read the famous palms verse.  The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.  Then, along with her bible, Our Daily Bread.  In the Our Daily Bread book

From her book More than Sparrows, Mary Welch tells of her discussion about worry with a group of teenagers.  The teens were Christians, they were worried as unbelievers about the common things of life.  As Welch listened to them, an unusual idea came to her for a game they could play.  It went like this:

Instead of saying,  "I am worried", stop and say, "The Lord is my Shepherd."  Then add,  "So I'm worried to death!"  The students all laughed at the absurdity of the idea, but they all promised to play this new "peace of mind" game.

Later, Mary got a phone call from a young woman who had been worried by worry over an exam she had been dreading to take.  She said, "I must tell you how the game helped me trust God today.  As I froze with worry, I remember to say, The Lord is my Shepherd...so I'm afraid I'll fail!"  That young woman felt a sudden calm of peace and she passed the exam!

Saying "The Lord is my Shepherd, and I am worried to death" is more than a mind game to pint out the absurdity of worry.  God can use this contradicition to bring us to a fuller trust in him.  -Joanie Yoder
