After giving it some more in-depth thought, I have an answer for Pastor Shannon's question at Hebrew Joe's today. I had an answer almost immediately, and would have voiced it had my wife not beat me to the punch. And as I prepared myself to voice it after her, I had second thoughts. Why? you might ask. No, I'm not afraid of public speaking, and no, my answer wasn't unspeakable in church. The reason was, I'm already typecast as a person and a believer based on what I do for a living (my personal observation of people's attitudes toward me) and didn't want to solidify it even further. But, after returning home, and thinking about it, my initial thought was the one that best sums up who I think Jesus is to me. In essence, Jesus is my back-up. He walks with me on this beat called life. He helps me over the hurdles in front of me, directs me away from the pitfalls, and shines his glorious light on me when I get into the dark places. That's who Jesus is to me.
