As an Organist-Choirmaster (40 years at the National City Christian Church on Thomas Circle), teacher, conductor and composer, he has been associated with hundreds of singers, organists, and pianists. “Music at Midday” concerts at National City Christian featured world-renowned organists at the legendary five-manual organ of 7,592 pipes. In 1973 the state funeral of President Lyndon Baines Johnson was held at the National City Christian, with the choir, Leontyne Price, soloist, and Lawrence P. Schreiber, organist. As a composer, Schreiber has published vocal solos, hymns, and organ and choral works. He continues to compose for special occasions for organ, soloists, and choir. Dr. Schreiber’s mentors have included Carl E. Burkel, Emmet G. Smith, Adrienne Reisner, Robert Baker, Searle Wright, Margaret Hillis, Elaine Brown, Leo Sowerby and Virgil Fox. In semi-retirement, Schreiber is Organist-Choirmaster of The First Baptist Church of the City of Washington, D.C. His recent recitals have included St. Thomas Church in New York City and the Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake City.
