Hi. I was born in Papua New Guinea during my parents' first missionary term. I became a Christian at age 5. I attended Houghton College and Shenandoah University and have a Bachelor's in Spanish Secondary Education and a Master's in Teaching English as a Second Language. I used to speak Spanish fairly well, but after speaking Portuguese for seven years, it is a little rusty!
My husband and I have been with Global Partners here in Mozambique since 1999. I speak English and Portuguese fluently and some Neo-Melanesian Pidgin and Spanish. I have been involved in translating several Portuguese booklets. I also love playing piano. Here in Mozambique, SIL has a building where they hold a Sunday evening service for English-speakers. Several times I have played their piano during the service. We have two children, Carissa (9) and Benjamin (5) (see photo). Both of them were born in South Africa. Currently I teach 4th-6th grade at a missionary school (see photo). I had ten students at the beginning of the year, but as missionaries come and go, I am actually down to five right now. Each grade has their own math and reading, but the other subjects we do together. |
