About Me

I am from Charlottesville, Virginia (home of Thomas Jefferson & the Dave Matthews Band) where I grew up. I attended a rural school near there and entered into graphic design and IT work in the late 90s. Since then I've worked as an IT Admin at the University of Virginia's Medical Center in the Department of Radiology, as the IT/Prepress department for a small print show and even a high school teacher at a small Christian school. Currently I am an IT Admin for Meacham & Apel Architects in Dublin, Ohio. I was married at the end of May 06 and after three nights with my new bride, we loaded up a moving truck and left Virginia headed for the land of OSU. Things weren't quite what we expected, but it makes for an interesting story to tell our kids and grandkids (once we get around to that).
Interests
I am an avid photographer, although quite amateur. I tend to focus on subjects of nature such as a single blade of grass, a petal of a rose or other seemingly minor and unimportant details that are generally overlooked. I find the amount of detail that God has put into even the tiniest things is worthy of recognition. Aside from that, I've started taking more photos of people in the last couple of years; sure, I get some bad shots, but I manage a few good ones here and there. Aside from that, I like to socialize with my male friends by playing computer games or things like hiking and camping. And friends of both genders are enjoyed while dining, playing board games or simply talking. One other things I used to enjoy in Virginia but can't here in Ohio is driving through mountains at high velocities--curves are fun, y'know?
Movies
I have a perhaps too-extensive movie collection; a few friends have asked me from time to time if I was trying to compete with Blockbuster or something. I actually like movies of all kinds--from comedies and dramas to romantic comedies and even thrillers. I'm not much for the horror flicks, I suppose, but there have been a couple that I thought weren't really horror as they were just suspenseful; I like those. Topping my list of favorite movies would be, in no particular order: Citizen Kane, The Princess Bride, Secondhand Lions, Batman Begins, Robin Hood: Men in Tights and Aladdin.
Music
I have a very electic taste in music. My music collection has things ranging from early 20th century jazz to some grunge and even a few home-grown songs. A couple of my favorite tracks would be ones that my wife recorded back when she was in high school, but she doesn't like me to play those. Aside from that, I can't say as I have favorites lately as I listen to so many things...I just get in a mood for something, and that's what I listen to.
Books
I've been captivated by medical nonfiction and Christian fiction for years. Books like Richard Preston's "The Hot Zone" and Larry Burkett's "Solar Flare" have been on my recent re-read list. In the most recent times I've been reading things like "Exchange Server 2003 Administrators Pocket Consultant" and "AutoCAD 2004 for Dummies." At the same time I'm working through "The Five Love Languages" and going back into John Eldridge's "Wild at Heart." The latter makes me really yearn for some things (e.g. the mountains I won't find in central Ohio) and it also helps me to recall that I am a man, and intended to be a fierce warrior for God.
Television
Sad as it is, most of my TV viewing is made up of The Simpsons. When I get the chance I'll also tune into things on The History Channel and The Discovery Channel, but these programs are at best randomly caught, and by no means chosen by anything more specific than convenience. I do enjoy MythBusters and try to catch that, but it doesn't happen nearly enough.
