I am 44, divorced for 6 years, no children. Joining the site to have some fellowship with other believers....to peruse and read about other people and their lives and walk with God. Have been a Christian lots of years, and seek to live my life by faith, and his guidance. Life has been a struggle for me emotionally. Work a blue collar job, and started grad school this year.
I enjoy reading, especially spiritual (Christian)or relational books, but a novel is okay now and then. Enjoy a movie now and then as well, and do watch public TV moreso than the regular shows out there. Like Masterpiece Theatre, British shows, even an occasional educational show like about history or bios. Enjoy animals, nature shows, walks, most kinds of music excluding opera and rap, love soft jazz, like to dance on occasion, can appreciate many ethnic foods, prefer people-watching or talking to one, or within a small group to trivial conversation with lots of people milling about. I tend to look for meaning in life, in conversation, and am analytical. I can be bubbly and extroverted, but am pretty sure at this point that is not all of who I am. Like to surf the web on subjects that interest me, especially male/female relationships, marriage, God's ideas around marriage. Am pretty romantic. Haven't dated since my divorce due to not being ready and whole enough, and the fact that I view dating as something you do when you are seeking a mate for marriage in the very near future. Find that lack of mutuality a real problem, and that people aren't seeking marriage....well, specifically men. (mainly our culture's fault, and the church for "promoting" singleness and not failitating the meeting up and pairing of men and women)....agree with, no all, but a lot of Debbie Maken's points in "Getting Serious About Getting Married".....I do consider the rate of singleness today a crisis. And...not natural for most.
It seems that outwardly I like the simple things. Inwadly....well....pretty complex. Feel most comfortable with a person who can relax as I try to, doesn't rudely answer their cell phone every 10 minutes in the middle of lunch or discussion,...I think communication is so important....and is a lost art in this country. Love to listen to a good discussion or friendly debate. Don't like to argue or debate for sport myself, unless I really need to make a point.Don't have a thick skin....pretty sensitive, though don't wear my heart on m sleeve.
Have attended all sorts of churches.....Pentecostal, Full Gospel, Lutheran, (was raised Catholic) Presbyterian, Nazarene......
| | Interests Honesty and integrity so important to me. Being honest can be hard when I fear hurting another's feelings. I love a kind, warm heart. Giving, generous. Tact with assertiveness. I also love a sense of humor in a person. Desire to be many good things.....sigh....sometimes set the standard too high and forget that we live by grace, His grace, a gift, and I don't have to be perfect. The performance perfection trap. Believe reliability and dependability are important as Christians.....don't promise what we cannot follow through with actions.....believe our animals are a gift from God that can help us heal, and provide great comfort and companionship. The reflect His unconditional, loyal love. | | Television Public Tv, Masterpience Theatre, Educational shows on history, etc....animal shows if they dont make me cry, British comedy, American Comedy.....do like an occasional sitcom. Try to avoid a lo of violent, murderos shows as I don't want that to dwell in my miind....(its kind of glorifying evil in a way) Like some old movies, or newer funny ones or those with a meaning. Cannot connect to space or science fiction....admit to watching "Something About Mary" recently, and about died laughing. Yes, comedy is a weakness.....wish they didn't have to put so much trash in so I could watch it with a clear conscience! |
