| I've been at Calvary for just over a year now, and in that time, God has done so much asesome stuff in my life. I feel more a part of a community than I ever have before. I've met some incredible people. I've sensed God's calling on my life. I've had the opportunity to cut my teeth in several leadership roles, which has seriously kicked my butt in the best possible way. In many areas I think I've grown more this year than in the previous 32 combined, and yet I also feel like I've barely even gotten out of the gate. Most of all, God is using my experiences here to remind me to keep my eyes squarely on Him. I think I'm just beginning to scratch the surface of Psalm 37:4 "Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart." I so want this principle to characterize my life. | | Interests Having unhurried time with God in the morning with a good cup of tea is like the best thing EVER. I am also just a tea freak. I order all my teas on specialteas.com. I think one of the big reasons it appeals to me is that there are so many varieties to choose from, and I am one of those people who prefers to try everything if at all possible. If there are 5 dipping sauces, I need to get at least one dip in all five. Spending time conversing with and praying together with good friends is something I want to do more of this year. | | Movies The Elephant Man - this movie was deeply troubling and inspiring all at the same time, Naked Gun - you don't want to know how many times I've watched the opening 2 scenes, Iron and Silk, anything with Jackie Chan, most anything with Robin Williams except when he plays psychopathic freaks | | Music hard to sum up in this category... but as a French horn player, I of course love Richard Strauss, Rachmaninoff, Mahler, Brahms, and definitely John Williams. You would probably laugh at all the other stuff I do and don't listen to, how much I know about certain groups, and how little I know about others. | | Books Brother Lawrence is my BOY! When work sucks, I take 5 minutes to pull out his book "The Practice of the Presence of God" (you can download it online for free), and remind myself that every moment is an opportunity to lovingly perform my work as unto my beloved Lord, and to see others as Jesus sees them (especially when they are getting on my last nerve).
Some of my other favorite writers are: C.S. Lewis, Dallas Willard, Ted Dekker, Ravi Zacharias, Oswald Chambers, Watchman Nee, John Eldridge, John Piper, and Dr. D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones. | | Television I have a love-hate relationship with addictive television series. 24 - if they don't get some resolution on this next season I'm going to kill Jack Bauer myself; Lost - awesome except that I can hardly stand the cliff-hangers every week, Sanford and Son, Nikita, Star Trek - Next Generation and of course the original cause you've gotta love Mr. Spock, Looney Tunes - I know I will still be able to laugh at these when I am 97 years old |
