I'm a 34 year old newlywed who has taken a step back from lay leadership lately. I'm hoping to get more involved again soon either at my current church or at a new church closer to my home. Maybe at both!
A little about where I'm coming from theologically:
I grew up in an American Baptist Church and was baptised there. My family was Baptist for many generations but in my generation our church shrunk to the point where we voted to disband. It was difficult but I believe it was the right decision.
I attended a Catholic high school and spent a couple years working for the local diocese. I worked under an amazing monsignor who took the time and interest to answer all of my questions - even the goofy ones. (Wanna know about exorcisms?) I also got to interact with the bishop - now a fairly well-known cardinal. So, I'm not Catholic but I understand a lot of it. Sometimes I know more than my Catholic friends!
I'm now a member of a United Methodist church. There are many things about the UMC that appeal to me (and a few that don't) but I'm mostly here because this congregation is the right fit for me. They are devoted to serving God and are sincere in their efforts. This is a truly welcoming congregation!
I tend toward the liberal end of the spectrum but I try to evaluate every situation on it's own merits rather than defaulting to a proscibed position. I'm excited to meet folks from all points (on the map and otherwise) and I look forward to some great sharing.
Movies
I watch almost anything. I love scary movies, comedies, dramas, martial arts films (Jet Li is a favorite), you name it. I'll try obscure indie flicks but I tend to stay away from subtitles. I miss too much action while I'm reading.
Music
I listen to almost anything. I'm not a big fan of country or rap but there are always exceptions. I've liked some of Clint Black's ballads and I admit to enjoying Eve.
Books
I read a little of everything. (I seems to be using the "little of everything" line for each of these categories. I'm either eclectic or scattered.)I try to mix up my books so I don't get too weighed down with heavy tomes or swept too far away by light reads. Please recommend your favorites to me. I love to talk books.
Television
I watch a little of everything. My current favorites include: Big Bang Theory, Bionic Woman, Reaper and Dexter.
