About Me
My name is Paul, and I grew up in Christian home. When I was about 12 the Gospel (which I had heard all my life) hit me like a ton of bricks. In my 20's I got very interested in theology and was delighted to discover that my parents faith was actually Biblical!
I currently attend an Orthodox Presbyterian Church, and work for AT&T as a splicer.
Interests
Theology in General; Also the Puritans and the Reformation, and theology as it applies in practice.
Movies
"Miss Potter" * This is a delightful presentation of some of the life of Beatrix Potter, creater of Peter Rabbit and other characters. "Gods and Generals" * Although I don't really care for Ted Turner (on several levels), but this movie profiles Gen. Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, who was a very committed Christian and is portrayed well as that here.
Music
I love all kinds of music, but particularly jazz, classical, and recently the old vocals like Mel Torme. "Casting Crowns" is one of the better contemporry groups I've heard. They get the difference between Law (what we do for God) and Gospel (what God does for us): the good news (i.e. gospel) is the latter.
Books
"The Mortification of Sin" by John Owen * Where my profile name comes from, this little Puritan gem is very practical in our common struggle against sin -- the World, the devil, and our own Flesh. "The Christian Life" by Sinclair Ferguson * This little book is a great theology, and the beauty of it is that the author still realizes theology must be lived, not just theorized. Ferguson is one of very few contemporary authors who can balance deep theology with practical living.
Television
Generally we like the crime dramas -- CSI (all of them), Law & Order (all of those, too). We've also gotten a big kick out of "Monk" on the USA network... very funny, and he still gets the bad guy.
