I had this dream where a younger man (sun-baked fast) was bragging on the hard work he had done. He had dug some holes (with a shovel). They were pretty big holes It was just a conversation. He was talking to an older man that he didn’t really know. He didn’t know what this older man did for his occupation. The older man nodded and listened kindly not saying anything. What the younger man didn’t know was that the older man had grown up digging also. However, he had become wise and resourceful and dug much bigger holes. [Sometimes we can appear rather ignorant.] In the rest of the dream, I pictured (the Grand Canyon). GOD. <> Listening seems to be an issue for many of us. We listen to the wrong people, or we want people to listen to us. We can listen to men who have accomplished great feats, however those are trivial compared to the works of God. So perhaps when God speaks through His writers, we should listen. Proverbs 1 Proverbs 4 We have a lot to learn from our fellow man. We have even more to learn from God. It’s kind of like… It’s like nothing else when God gives us insight, or reveals something to us. Take sermon preparation for instance, it can take 10-20 hours sometimes even more. But sometimes God will do something special like wake you up and just start showing you something. You can lie there and say it’s not time to get up, or get up and write as fast as you can. He does that at the time of His choosing, and it’s rare. But are you ready when He reveals something to you. It’s not every day God pulls off a Grand Canyon. Sometimes He teaches those that will listen how to do something huge. ---Sometimes the difference between those digging the big holes and those digging the little holes is that someone’s listening to the wisdom of God, and someone else is not. Have you been digging holes in your own power and in your own knowledge, your whole life just big enough to bury people in? Have you been listening to God, gaining His knowledge and working smarter doing so much more, that it can be seen from an aerial photo? - What crowd are you following? The hard-working, stubborn I’ll-do-it-my-way crowd; or the crowd that understands that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom”?
“Above all else, guard your heart, out of it overflows life.” –Prov.4:23 <><We try to do so much the hard way, when all we need to do is follow God’s ways. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life no man comes to the Father except by me.” It is amazing how easy it is to do even hard things when we go with God’s flow. Many have experienced a difficult life, because they have run from God. Perhaps you are like the young man whose weary, weathered face bragged to the older man about his life of digging holes. You have spent nearly a life time digging your own grave. <>< God had you in mind (PS), and He created you for a purpose. Isn’t it about time, you start listening…not just listening, but following His call…for your life? What are you talking about? You could get an accounting degree…count numbers your whole life…get stuff…and die; or you can get an accounting degree because God called you to that and glorify God by being a blessing to others. You can do that in any vocation. <>< We are human beings. Be what God has called you to be, and life will flow easier in His direction. (Difficult seasons arise to teach and shape us…go with it.) “For we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works which He prepared in advance for us to do.” Jesus said,”…I have come that you might have life and have it more abundantly.”
