Canvas Church, you are an amazing group of people! I'm so thankful for all of you and I am filled with love for you all.

As I sit down to write, I listen to the powerful words of one of my favorite worship songs, Saviour King. "...Let now Your church shine as Your bride, That You saw in Your heart, As You offered up Your Life. Let now the lost be welcomed home, By the saved and redeemed, Those adopted as Your own. Let now our hearts burn with a flame, A fire consuming all, For Your Son's holy Name, And with the heavens we declare, You are our King. We love You Lord, We worship You, You are our God, You alone are good, You asked Your Son, To carry this. The heavy cross, Our weight of sin, I love You Lord, I worship You, Hope which was lost, Now stands renewed. I give my life, To honour this, The love of Christ, The Saviour King."

These words resound with our purpose. To honor Jesus, our Savior, and to bring the lost to Him. It reminds me of the spirit of our church. Canvas Church is a body of believers who love to bring honor to Christ and love to bring the lost to Him. You all burn with a flame of fire which was ignited by God Himself. Your lights are shining out there in our community, showing all the love of Christ.

Thank you for making Canvas Church the life-giving place that it is. Happy Anniversary, and may God open the windows of Heaven to pour out blessings upon you all in abundance that you may have all you need and be able to continue to give to all those around you who are in need.

I love you!

Suzy

fall Back

Just a reminder to set your clocks back 1 hour tonight.
See you in the morning.

Our venture is nearing it's end - today is Tuesday....

Rick and I are in the office and associates are scurrying around, working hard and leveraging each other's strengths. We had breakfast at the resort, our usual - Saffron Pancakes with carmelized bananas and crispy bacon, me with a pot of coffee and Rick with his pot of tea. We sat next to Rebecca and learned that her 'real' job is architecture!!! We had an uneventful ride into work and are completely ready to come home. For those of you who may be interested we depart from India @ 12:15 a.m. IST - Friday morning; and fly a 14 hour flight to Chicago - have a four hour layover and customs stuff to do and should arrive in Jacksonville around 1:30 p.m. Friday afternoon barring no delays. I have had difficulty wrapping my mind around the 14 hour flight, 9.5 hour difference, plus the one hour difference between Chicago and Jax.

Rick and I read in the paper today, that the international airport has experience flight arrivals and departures delays due to critters (big lizards 'Komoto dragons'- seen by pilots, now that's scary, monkeys, jackals, dogs littered the runway as the Monsoon season has hit. Yes we have experienced it all!!!!!!

We are both excited about returning home!!!!! See ya'll in a few days!

Weekend at the Taj, Fine Dining and restful sleep!

On Saturday morning, Rick and I met in the lobby for our getaway to see the #1 Wonder of the World - Taj Mahal. There was a little delay in Vineet and Sugit arriving at the resort, as they'd taken a few wrong turns, they arrived and we had breakfast. By 10 a.m. we were off! It took us about three hours to reach Agra, and the weather was very warm. When we arrived, we decided to eat lunch first. Met by Hasan's cousin, we were escorted into the most amazing five star hotel. We were greeted with wooden bracelets & bindi -The woman's mark is most often called a bindi. It can be worn as a decoration, by women of any religion, or as a Hindu religious observance. We got lots of picts for those back home. Peshawri - was the name of an exquisite Indian Authentic Cuisine restaurant. The servers allowed both Rick and I separately in the kitchen, I even got to help make the buttered naan - we captured this on video! We had Tandoori Chicken, naan, and dal.

After a filling lunch we were on our way to the Taj. When we arrived, we had to park a distance away. As we pulled in the parking lot, both Rick and I sighted a camel with carriage. We asked if that could be our mode of transportation (our options being, horse & buggy, bicycle & buggy or battery operated shuttle or the camel) You got it! We not only were escorted to the gate of the Taj, and both rode the camel, but Rick rode camelback right up to the entrance!!!!!

We had two very nice tour guides while inside, and spent the better part of two hours amazed by the elaborate marble structure. It's interesting that it took 22,000 men, 22 years 24 hours a day to build it and it was built with such precision and symmetry!

After we left the Taj, we rode on onbe of their battery operated jobees. And you guessed it! More shopping! To all the girls back home, this place was a little to rich for my pocket book. However, while we were inside, they showed us how the marble was inlaid with the precious stones of jade, ruby, pearl and other fine jewels. Vineet captured this process for us on video. From this location we went into a more reasonable souvineer shop. By the time we were finished we were all exhausted - Rick slept the entire way home. We were hosted by the most gracious men - Vineet P Singh & Suchit Bhalla - we are most grateful for an amazing day!

Sunday was meant for rest and relaxation and I did just that! All day long! Ate and slept, and started watching Bride and Prejudice but fell asleep. I did get the chance to watch it from beginning to end before work this morning! If you haven't seen it, it's a must.

Miss you all and will see you Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The cuisine here is incredible!

We have tried so many new foods! Our stay here in India has really been and enjoyable experience overall. Soft live is a term used within the company to indicate we've moved beyond the training/classroom enviornment to on the floor production of a portion of the loan volumes to acclimate them to the processes gradually.

Last night @ dinner, about 10:30 p.m. Rick and I were observing a model being filmed, appeared as if they were doing a photo shoot as well as a movie or commercial. This morning when we were at breakfast, Leslie Morrison approached me to be in the movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The producer of a new program in India is being shot, called India's Millionnaire Channel - highlighting places that the rich and famous can enjoy. Well of course I had to tell him that I needed to freshen up. We left the restaurant and were driven to our rooms, because neither my, nor Rick's keys are working and they have to get the enginneers out to correct the problem or move us from our rooms to new rooms. In any event, I spruced up and actually got ready for work, wearing my Salwar-Kamis & Dupatta. When I arrived back at the restaurant, Leslie greeted me with OH MY MS CELEBRITY! You look wonderful! The camera crew proceeded to get me ready for the interview and the model we saw last evening joined me as if to share a meal. I learned from her that she is from London, a young girl, who is traveling around the world to capture the lifestyles of the rich and famous. Leslie assured me that he would get this on film and get me the take (we may actually get the whole show). I felt like a movie star - the woman making sure the set was right, made sure my necklace was hanging correctly, moved my hair around and wired me for sound.

The last two days have been a little stressful healthwise, if you are reading, I'd just ask for your continued prayer. I believe I am in the center of His will, and that His protection is surrounding me. Well friends, family and fellow teammates, I must sign off for now.....time to get back to work. Love and miss you all! We are down to only 9 more days till we return home :o) - Rick said we are in the single digits now.

June 1st - What an awesome weekend

Smiles and laughter & love bridge the cultural gap.................no matter where you are.

This weekend was a fun-filled, excitement packed venture. We had clearance to travel to Delhi, the capital city of India. Krishan, our driver, started us out @ Connaught Place where we experienced the underground market. Not what I'd expected, but definately an adventure. We purchased shoes, stoles, shawls, jewelry, shirts, souveniers, and Rick bought a watch. Srijna, Sveta, Abilasha, Gautam and Vineet all met us there. Wait til I get home, Vineet caught a bit of it on handy-cam. However, after we came out of the underground market, we got to experience the open market - exactly what I anticipated!!!!!

After we finished there, Krishan took us to the CP Revolving Restaurant. Located on the 27th floor we were able to see the entire city of Delhi. There were signs pointing to the Red Fort, the President's House, Various Mosques, Connaught Place, and various other landmarks.

We were able to stop at India Gate for a few minutes after our shopping and dining. We were caught in the midst of a windstorm but we couldn't resist stopping. Vineet helped us by photographing us and continuing with his video capture. The India Gate is a memorial for all the men who gave their lives for their independence.

We passed on dinner and decided to meet this morning for brunch, which was to say the least amazing. After dinner, I got to take a mid morning nap, which by the way has become custom on the weekend. I doze off and the house boys come to clean, it never fails, but groggy as I am, I let them in and they clean my place spic n span. They are really awesome here.

The girls and I met by the pool and enjoyed the sunshine and the pool for a quick dip.

Today marks Tiffany's 21st birthday. If you see her please give her bear hugs and a great big kiss from mama 8,000 miles away. Yesterday roads were closed so we stayed back at the resort and rested and ate, and rested again, walked the perimeter of the property, napped, and ate again! Took some more photos which I'll try to upload this weekend.

Our plan as it stands right now, we are scheduled to go to Delhi to experience the markets, Gate to India and the Red Fort. We are so looking forward to experiencing more of India. On the way in this morning there were three or four herds of sheep - there were hundreds and shepherds were tending the flock - just like in biblical days.

We left the resort @ 9 a.m. this morning and expect to return around 10:30-10:45 p.m. - yes, the days are long. But our weekend will be great reward for another productive week. I tried Roasted Duck last night (from Pauline's plate) - and it was awesome! I ordered an Asparagus Macaroni - it was delicious - had a cream sauce and some form of creamy cheese then it was topped with Asiago and baked. MMMMMMMM

There is unrest here in India from a group who is protesting the government for more rights. Apparently this is a tribe striving for similar tax, schooling and benefits. It's been a little unsettling, although Rick and I feel they are taking appropriate precautions for our safety......besides, every morning we thank God for his provision; thank him for our safety and for continued protection. The weekend held great relaxation and rejuvenation for us. We started the weekend off right - the hotel staff greeted us as if we were royalty (first time we got quite this level of service) 'Ms. Fields and Mr. Plybon, we've been expecting you.....you must be exhausted from your long day/week....may we take your bags...may we escort you to your room......you freshen we will take you to dinner.' When we got to the restaraunt, they actually opened the kitchen for us (it was about 11:30 p.m.). We met a gentleman by the name of Ed - and executive in from New York City who works for Merrill Lynch. He is a world traveler - we were shoked when he ordered Rib Eye from the menu. Of course, based on all of our preparation we knew that in India you can't order beef. But we were wrong, he got the best piece of steak delivered. He joined Rick and I and shared all sorts of stories. Said this was the most remote location he has ever travelled.

Saturday, Abilasha met us at the Ambiance Mall which is 1 kilometer in length and 7 stories high - Pauline, Marion, Abilasha and I were in heaven while Rick and Abilasha's husband chatted, and stayed out of the stores as much as possible. Saturday afternoon each of us received a handwritten invitation to join the Executive Sales and Marketing Manager for dinner - of course I had to order the Rib Eye - it was mouth watering and melted in our mouths. When we asked Rib Eye of what he said beef of course. Leslie is from Kolkata (Calcutta) - a different region in India where cows are not sacred. He has the steaks imported from Austrailia - he loves steak. We learned about his family and his four year old daughter - Bianca who loves American cartoons and Disney. After dinner we listened to Rebecca (the singer from Austrailia) - she's going to give me a cd - can't wait for you to hear her.

I was located about 12:30 a.m. the hotel staff found me letting me know that Rick had an emergency and I needed to get to his room right away. All he communicated is his hand is bleeding. He had attemped to kill a very large spider with a shoe and his pinky finger nail hit the concrete - 1/2 the nail bent backwards and ripped flesh wide open - he was bleeding a lot. We called the hotel staff and they brought him a bandaid - this obviously was not going to take care of the wound. After discussing our options we cleaned the wound with alcohol - put Neosporin on it and wrapped a great deal of gause on the upper part of the finger so as not to touch the nail. Then we put a big knee size bandaid around the top. He started his antibiotics and pain meds. Our option was to have him rushed to the hospital (you will understand why we didn't take him when you see the photos of their medical facilities). Leslie was with us when we were caring for Rick and he offered to have the physician come to the resort in the morning. We waited Sunday morning for the doctor and believe it or not we did everything exactly as he would have. We undressed the wound and after his assessment I assisted (as nurse) to redress the finger.

I enjoyed a pedicure and the best facial!!!!! Oh my goodness - the facial included a shoulder, arms and legs massage - it was the best!!!! Laura if you're reading this you were absolutely correct. After my treatments I napped for several hours. I was late to dinner but enjoyed a great Basil Chili Chicken over jasmine bed of rice.

Immediately after dinner, I returned to the bed and passed out until morning.

I am missing you all and can't wait to come home, but have thoroughly enjoyed this experience and wouldn't change it for the world!!!!! Take care and talk to you soon.

1/2 Way through Day 5 in the Office - India

Our class is going really well, associates are anxious to learn, excitingly competitive and very, very intelligent. They are so very courteous - I have thought many times this week that we in the states understand the meaning of the word, however, have never experienced it to the degree I have here. Every morning we are greeted with a smile, hand shake and Good Morning Maam or Sir - by every single student in the class. Get ready Jacksonville.....we're coming back and we're ready for change,.

Rick and I ventured out during our lunch break and tried chicken momos / dimsym - authentic Chinese cuisine - in the food court downstairs - we are both a little skiddish about how it may affect our stomachs as we have both experienced a lot of discomfort since our arrival.

On the way in this morning we saw and photographed a camel - SO COOL! The monkey danced for us at the hotel and we got video clips of that too! Our driver, Kristnan, escorted us to the office with Punjabi song - on the radio (I did a video clip of this as well as we were driving so hopefully you will be able to hear it in the background, as you will see a short stretch of our drive).

Our drive into the office takes one hour and fifteen minutes to an hour and a half each way. So our day starts at 10 a.m. and we don't arrive to the resort until 11:15 - 11:30 each day. It's taken a toll on each of us as we've had no down time or relaxation time.

We're scheduled to journey to Agra India tomorrow to see the Taj Mahal - looking forward to it!

Love and miss you all!!!!!!!

Vacation was amazing....

Mike and I were able to break away and spend time with the Powells, at Orlando Resort - Summer Bay for four days. Oh my goodness! What an incredible trip. We enjoyed MGM, Epcot, dining together and veggin' by the pool. Bill & Cyndy, thank you so much for the hospitality, great fun and hang time.

Just got back home today and am packing for the trip of a lifetime. My bags are 95% packed.

Tiffany will be updating my MySpace with the same blog entry I put on My Church for those of you who would like to view pics of our trip.

I am leaving tomorrow @ 11:40 a.m. from Jax - flying into Chicago and flying from Chicago to Delhi India @ 7:10 p.m. straight through - they are 9.5 hours ahead of us. The flight is 15 hours.

There is a little unrest in India (bombings in Jaipur) which is four hours away from where we are staying. Please be in prayer for those who've been impacted by the tragedy. Oh - and for those of you who have checked out where my hotel stay is, it's changed. We will be staying at the Westin in Sonha - http://www.orbitz.com/App/ViewSpecificHotelLP?masterId=217361&hs=RETAIL&tabIndex=2&WT.mc_id=o_ta_retail_amenities&WT.mc_ev=click&DCSext.mc_kw=217361#

Check it out! I will miss you all!!!! Thank you for all the love and prayers, and keep on keepin' on @ Canvas. Ya'll can send me notes too!

Shine Conference 2008

Hello Church! I sit at home now after having attended the Shine Conference 2008 at Celebration Church. This year's ladies conference was so life-changing for so many women. I am so glad that I and some others from Canvas took time out of our schedule to position ourselves in God's house for what we received. You know, Celebration Church is one of the great churches in our nation. They are very supportive of Canvas Church and all that we are doing. So I am thrilled to support Pastor Kerri Weems and her vision to empower and value the women of our community.

Friday night's message proved to be one which will continue to affect God's Kingdom for generations to come. We who were present were positioned to be "locked in" to a worldwide movement. God has begun a movement in this time in history to have His daughters rise up and take their proper place in His Kingdom. We have a vital role to play in advancing God's Kingdom just as much as men do. The men cannot do this all on their own. Humanity needs to see a complete and perfect reflection of God's glory on this earth. When men and women of God take their places and work in unity - not in competition - the result is a beautiful reflection of what God originally intended.

I am so excited about what God is doing in me and in Aaron and in Canvas Church. Ladies I have to tell you that if you didn't go to Shine with us this year, mark your calendars for May 14-16, 2009. Make sure you don't miss it!!! We all have things we didn't get done so that we could be positioned in the right place at the right time to receive an impartation of God's power to connect with a movement on this Earth which will change the world! God is moving and I don't want to miss what He wants for me!

I love you all! We have seen in v5 to be submissive (an action) and to clothe ourselves in humility (an action).
The third action that deals with humility is in v6 where it instructs us to "...humble ourselves under God's mighty hand..." All too often people who are beginning their walk with the Lord or who might have gotten some incorrect instruction view God (and His mighty hand) as something to be feared and avoided. "I better not get God mad at me..." Their response is to a fear that God is out to get them, waiting for them to mess up so He can bring a holy smackdown. (You can see a whole message series that we did at CANVAS Church called "Strong & Loving" with MP3s and sermon notes in downloadable format at www.canvaschurch .net in the Media Archives menu. You can also subscribe to CANVAS church podcasts on iTunes.)
Read portion "B" of v5 again..."God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble..." God is looking for people who will posture themselves before Him in humility, realizing their absolute need for Him in every area of their lives. These people release the reins of their lives to Him and have chosen to make Him Lord. Even though a mess up or a time of weakness happens, and they will, He extends grace.
So, if He extends grace as a response to our humility, His mighty hand is no longer viewed as something to be feared but is viewed as a source of strength for us when we need to be lifted up.
Next time, we'll get into v7 where we'll talk about "casting those anxieties on Him..."
     Life is good.

Do you like Clooney?

She surprised me with the great plans of going to one of Jacksonville's coolest date night areas called San Marco. Actually, San Marco is known for the San Marco square with its shops, quaint restaurants and bistros, and...The San Marco Theater.
We had dinner at the theater and saw the newly released movie "Leatherheads". It is a great film starring and directed by George Clooney. If you are a Clooney fan, you'll love this movie and its witty vibe. It's set in the 1920's around the introduction of professional football.
Great date night movie. You can learn more about all movies at a great site sponsored by Focus On The Family... www.pluggedinonline.com.
We recently had a chance to get away for Spring Break to the mountains of North Georgia and we had a blast!
Suzy was able to research what proved to be a beautiful cabin in the Mineral Bluff area just shy of the Georgia/North Carolina border. The cabin had all of the amenities that you could want including an amazing kitchen, hot tub, wi-fi, foosball, gameroom, not the least of which was the awesome mountain view.
We spent our time at a local spa, hiking, and having the first ever "Maners Family Foosball Smackdown Tournament".

Did I mention that we took our knuckleheaded dogs with us?

In review, the first action was to be conscious enough of the proper order of things and to be careful to submit ourselves to those above us. This, of course, includes submitting our hearts and lives to God. MAJOR action of humility.
The second action I saw in 1 Peter 5:5-10 was, likewise based in humility. "...Clothe yourselves in humility toward one another..." If the first action was vertical, this one could best be described as horizontal. (It is one of the famous "one anothers" in Scripture.) A person might sit back after reading these two verses and say, "Hmmmm, it seems easier to understand why I would submit and be humble toward God and even the people older or more experienced than I, but I might have a hard time with some of those "one anothers" in my life."
Maybe our fear is that we might begin to lose any "bits" of control in the relationship or somehow trade away our influence and status in the eyes of those who might be observing. The acknowledgement and repentance of this is a great first step toward getting things straight, getting things more Christ-like in our lives.
We put clothes on, oftentimes, to impress others or create someone else's impression of us. "The clothes make the man" is a saying that we have heard for years. Only partly, true though. It should be quoted as "the clothes make the man...in the eyes of those who are observing the man."
     Clothe yourself with humility.
     More to come.

     Life is good.

Thoughts on Humility (1 of 7)

God got my attention and directed me to 1 Peter 5:5-10. (Give it a read real quick.)
Now that you've read it, you might be thinking, Aaron MUST have been asking God to make him more humble. In this case, I hadn't. My prayer was that the Lord begin to show me how to actually cast my cares on Him. I knew the verses...I could even recite a few of them. But, I didn't know how to actually put them into practice and ultimately find the "release" and peace that comes from truly trusting in God for everything.
When I began reading these few verses and picking them apart I started to see that there are 7 Actions that I could benefit from in this endevour.
Action One. "...Young men, in the same way, be submissive to those who are older..."
One thing that has become painfully clear in the recent months of planting a church is that I do not know as much as I thought I did. No, really. :)
Suzy and I have found great value in learning how to ask questions of those who have gone on before us in ministry and have become smart enough to listen to the answers they give us. We are the "young" who are acknowledging the wisdom of the "older" and more experienced.
The formula, for us is simple...Ask and be quiet. Ask and listen.
This submission and humilty seems to be of the vertical nature with those who are our leaders, our mentors, our superiors.
Who are they in your life? Who can you listen to?
     More to come.

Life is good.

Church Plant Insights

We had a great day yesterday at CANVAS (canvaschurch.net). We celebrated two years as a church plant in southwest Jacksonville.
Suzy and I were so excited at the progression everything has taken and the amazing team of people that God has drawn to CANVAS. I mentioned a thought in a service a couple of weeks ago. I said, "Three years ago when Suzy and I were in the dreaming and planning stage, not yet having moved to Jacksonville, we had no clue who would join us. We didn't know (I mentioned specific names in the audience and on the team), yet we still moved. And those people ended up linking up with the vision and began making CANVAS their own and building important parts of ministry. Today, I couldn't imagine this church without them".
Yesterday, the band did amazing, we had a cake, the kiddos were given party hats by the awesome KidZone teachers, and we had some great friends Eric and Darlene Partin as our guest speakers.
