What a great question? Maybe we should Detox. But what is Detox anyway? Heres a definition:
Detox: Short for detoxification, usually from an addictive drug such as alcohol or heroin. A detox center is designed to promote the recovery of a person from an addiction.
Ok so what has THAT to do with Christians, churches and religion in general. Plenty!!
While we may not be ON drugs per se, some can use religion AS a drug. Getting so involved and wrapped up in all the programs and activities and to-do lists that we loose sight of the people and their hurts and their lives. So many stay Safe on the drug of church! Always doing more, going to more, serving more and getting really busy for God supposedly. But what about the relationship WITH God?
And what about all the "Spiritual Experiences" we can garner and suck in, aka the "Lakeland thingy". Oh yea. speaking of which, here is another example of a so called christian, in the planning stages of getting a divorce, for a non-biblical reason, but still considers himself, as does his followers, a good christian:
we must temper the jubilation we know you all feel with the sobering news that Todd and Shonnah Bentley are presently experiencing significant friction in their relationship and are currently separated. We want to affirm that there has been no sexual immorality on the part of either Todd or Shonnah, nor has there ever been.
The above is from Todds Website and states no sexual immorality? So why then seperate? Guess his "angel" he listens to told him to do it! Now there are thjose that will defend this man as an upstanding good christian? Not sure why because if you read the Bible carefully, he exibits all the features of a false teacher/prophet and his supporters claim he needs prayer. Well on that they are right, he does, but not for the reasons they claim, but for God to save his soul. See this and you will understand what I mean:
(Mat 19:3) Some Pharisees approached Him to test Him. They asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife on any grounds?"
(Mat 19:4) "Haven’t you read," He replied, "that He who created them in the beginning made them male and female,
(Mat 19:5) and He also said: For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh?
(Mat 19:6) So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, man must not separate."
(Mat 19:7) "Why then," they asked Him, "did Moses command us to give divorce papers and to send her away?"
(Mat 19:8) He told them, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because of the hardness of your hearts. But it was not like that from the beginning.
(Mat 19:9) And I tell you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery."
(Mat 19:10) His disciples said to Him, "If the relationship of a man with his wife is like this, it’s better not to marry!"
(Mat 19:11) But He told them, "Not everyone can accept this saying, but only those it has been given to.
(Mat 19:12) For there are eunuchs who were born that way from their mother’s womb, there are eunuchs who were made by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves that way because of the kingdom of heaven. Let anyone accept this who can."
See what I mean? Good Christian, divorce? Not the same reason Jesus gave, that Todds ministry says? Hmm? Should we believe this guy? I say pray for his soul as he seems to be deluded.
Now you see why we must DETOX from religion and simply do as the BIBLE instructs US to Do. Not some guy in Lakeland , or some other well meaning smiling pastor, What Christ said and then just Do It! This is but only One example of a good reason to detox!! We need to quit traveling from one experience to the next, looking for the next big Fix of what ever it is that makes us feel better, even though that has nothing to do with the Bible as most read it.
So what to do? Lose your religion. Detox. Live as Jesus taught and search the Bible for all the answers. Quit wanting to get your ears tickled and instead get your brain engaged. When we do this, we’ll see things may not get better, but then we’re not as disappointed either, for now we have become followers of the Way, students and disciples of Jesus and nothing more. So share your detox experiences as well! More to come in the future!
