01/08 Hi Every one! It’s been an easy winter here as far as the weather goes, high 30’s to low 50’s, but it’s been a difficult adjustment. I really miss Bradford and all of you. I miss church!! There isn’t anything quite like “The Tower”.It’s either over the top or like the church we use to belong to. No middle ground. Fortunately, I am enjoying my job, although quite demanding. I am the office manager for aProfessional Organizer & Quality Housekeeping and Business Cleaning company, A Votre Service. (At Your Service) The owner who is French – (oh la la, zee French) is quite eccentric and with all the stress, quite difficult to work with! She is so busy; I don't know how she has done it on her own all this time. She has 100 clients at present and it is growing. This summer will certainly not be one of relaxation. I have done a great deal of marketing to build the business as well as book keeping and managing 8 of the girls who are cleaning contractors. They speak very little English so it makes for some difficult moments when you are explaining what needs to be done. How I wish Andie were here. In addition, I have helped to reorganize business. Her files are a mess and I have re-created forms etc that just didn’t make sense to any one but her. I am making progress, but it is quite challenging to be of assistance to one who has done it on their own for 15 years. We will easily max at 300 clients during the summer. I am also still working for Hannah and her family in Southampton when they come out on the island. That is more hands on work of cleaning and shopping. Much better money, but working for A Votre Service will serve me better in the long run.Let me hear from all of you. Miss you and hope all is going well. Let me know what’s happening in your lives.Blessings and loveBecky 11/07
I just wanted to get in touch with you all and figured this was the easiest way to do so. It doesn’t seem like we are utilizing this site as much as we first thought we would. It’s a great avenue to keep connected! We should use it more.
I am doing well here, but I am missing home. I knew I would, but the people are so different. Now that summer has ended, it’s primarily the “locals” that you meet on the street, and they are warm and genuine.
Work is good, but I’d like more of it. I thought that jobs would be a dime a dozen here. At least that is what I was told. I did have an interview Wednesday with an author and she needs help marketing her book and running her other two businesses and I have lots of resumes out. So we’ll see.
I wanted to share with you a little of what I’m doing out here. When Ralph comes down we try to get out on our own and do something special. Before the weather turned we went to a place called Elizabeth Morton National Wildlife Refuge. You take birdseed in with you and hold out your hand and the birds come right to you. If you look at the video you can see our experience. What fun we had! It was a perfect day together.
Ralph will be down again next Monday but I will meet him in the city as he has a business dinner that he’d like me to join him in. That will be fun being in Manhattan for the night.
I want to thank those of you who have been so helpful with my mom and dad. They are having some difficult days, especially Sundays when they use to have a routine with me. I call often and write almost every day. They love getting something in their mailbox.
I’ll upload some photos of where I am so you have an image of where I am.
C2J has been singing a new song the last couple weeks called "I Will Boast." It was written by Paul Baloche(Open the Eyes of My Heart, Above All, etc.). You can find it on his great new album A Greater Song. The simple verse, chorus and bridge create a very catchy melody that you'll find humming long after you leave church. The song really declares that the Lord is in control of all things in our lives: our wisdom, strength, riches. There's a reason why Paul wrote the chorus as he did - upbeat and loud! We are to proclaim the Lord as the One Who's worthy and the whole world is to know!!!
Another amazing writer, the Apostle Paul, writes this in 1 Corinthians 1:26-31:
"Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things - and the things that are not - to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God - that is, our righteousness, holiness, and redemption. Therefore, as it is written(in Jeremiah 9:24): "Let him who boasts boast in the Lord."
Who do you credit for your wisdom, strength and riches?
Humble us, Lord, so that we may give thanks to the One who made us, to the One who gifted us, and to the One who saved us.
I Will Boast Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom Or the strong man boast in his strength Let not the rich man boast in his riches But let the humble come and give thanks To the One who made us, the One who saved us
I will boast in the Lord my God I will boast in the One Who's worthy
