About Me

My name is Stephanie, and I'll be a junior in college this year. I'm really excited about that. I love coffee, kickin' it, watchin' movies, the beach, and reading good books. There's a famous quote by Oscar Wilde, "Only the shallow know themselves."

Well, the first thing about me is that I'm trying to grasp the weight of the fact that Jesus really loves us and has good intentions for each person's life, and I think believing in that is something very different from simply knowing it; I'm trying to really allow myself to embrace that truth. That song we sing at church sometimes, "How He Loves Us" by John Mark McMillan has really influenced me.

There's also this quote by Bono's wife, Ali Hewson: "I don't want to leave any darkness behind me." I want to live my life in a way that leaves no darkness in people's lives or in the places I've been. I think that's really deep.

I also try to keep in mind a quote by Eleanor Roosevelt: "Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people."

The Lord is always glad to see something new in us every morning!

Also, there's a quote from a good book called How to Hear God by Charles Stanley, that stuck out to me, which says, "Out of the billions of people who make up this universe, God is interested in you." I recommend that book over any other book I've ever read.

The new soul is the life's star;
this fresh innermost being comes from God,
eternal,
and Heaven is our soul's home,
as the stars are at home in Heaven.
During our youth we travel like a shooting star,
crashing down to earth into maturity.
Then,
like a gossamer stream of light across the sky,
the completed mature heart
fades into the light of a common,
glorious day
in the liberty of Christ Jesus.
This song by Hillsong United, "From the Inside Out", really demonstrates who I am right now. I believe that God laid it on my heart a couple weeks ago, and I just kept either forgetting the lyrics or I would forget to obtain the song...but the band played it at Campus Crusades recently and it really resonates with who I am and who I am becoming in the Lord.

A thousand times I've failed
Still your mercy remains
And should I stumble again
Still I'm caught in your grace
Everlasting, Your light will shine when all else fades
Never ending, Your glory goes beyond all fame
In my heart, in my soul, Lord I give you control
Consume me from the inside out Lord
Let justice and praise become my embrace
To love You from the inside out
Your will above all else, my purpose remains
The art of losing myself in bringing you praise
And the cry of my heart is to bring You praise
From the inside out Lord, my soul cries out

Interests
My friends, cute babies, interesting classes, the news, and learning new things. I really want a tatoo. Also, John Piper. What more can I say? Delicious books come forth from this man's mind. For more information on Christian Hedonism visit his website at www.desiringgod.com
Movies
wall*E

I think all of us have a little bit of Wall-E in us, or we want what Wall-E has: organic love that is so vulnerable and raw. Reckless in the face of the pragmatism in this world, or even the chaos swirling around, he determines instead to pursue and inspire a pure, sacrificial, focused love for others. What can I say? It was a truly beautiful, philosophical experience for me...SEE WALL-E...Like, go now--right now--and see it!

Music
Books
Bono: in Conversation with Michka Assayas changed my life. It has been a huge influence in altering my world view (for the best I hope). I HIGHLY recommend reading it. I tried to get all the C.S. Lewis books I love too, but the pictures had errors on them. So they are as follows: The Great Divorce, A Grief Observed, The Problem of Pain, The Screwtape Letters, and Mere Christianity.
Television
I really don't watch that much tv. It's kind of a waste of life, I think. I watch a lot of movies, which is probably equally wasteful.
