I am not sure what is most disturbing about this article. Is it that the mom called the cops because her daughter wouldn't go to bed? Or that the cops intervened? Or that the policeman thought it necessary to use the taser on a ten year old girl? God help us.

Cop Tases 10-Year-Old GirlArkansas mother suggested stun gun treatment for unruly daughter NOVEMBER 18--An Arkansas cop tasered an unruly 10-year-old girl after her mother called police to report that the child was crying, screaming, and refusing to go to bed. The tased girl, Kiara Medlock, is about 65 pounds and 4' 6", according to her father. Anthony Medlock, a truck driver who does not live with the fifth grader and her mother, provided TSG with a recent photo of his daughter, which can be seen at right. According to the below Ozark Police Department report, when Officer Dustin Bradshaw arrived at the residence last Thursday, he found the girl "screaming, kicking, and resisting every time her mother tried to touch her." Bradshaw added that, "Her mother told me to tase her if I needed to." After Kiara continued to refuse her mother's instructions, the cop concluded that "there was not going to be a peaceful resolution of the issue." Bradshaw warned the girl that she was "going to jail," but the child continued kicking and crying and resisted his attempt to handcuff her. During the tussle, Kiara "struck me with her legs and feet in the groin, reported Bradshaw, who countered with a brief "stun to her back" with his Taser. The child, not surprisingly, "immediately stopped resisting and was placed into handcuffs. She would not walk on her own and I had to carry her to my police car." Kiara was then transported to a youth shelter.

All indications are that is has. Nobody knows why, though. Scientists are calling it a "time out" which implies it will start again, but I ask - how do they know? From a computer modeling perspective, this is one of the most fascinating challenges of our time.

Global warming appears to have stalled. Climatologists are puzzled as to why average global temperatures have stopped rising over the last 10 years. Some attribute the trend to a lack of sunspots, while others explain it through ocean currents.
Otherwise, however, not much is happening with global warming at the moment. The Earth's average temperatures have stopped climbing since the beginning of the millennium, and it even looks as though global warming could come to a standstill this year.

This is a major break into what has been a totally closed part of our monetary system. I am not sure whether to applaud it or not. I have long thought the Fed had way too much power with little checks and balances. However, to put an audit group in place to monitor their power...seems like just added bureaucracy to me. We will see if there is any positive impact.
BTW, while the article below call's it "Paul's measure", it was cosponsored by Ron Paul (R) and alan Grayson (D), so it had bipartisan support.

By Ronald D. Orol, MarketWatch WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Rep. Ron Paul, who has sought to audit the Federal Reserve for 26 years, has inched ever so much closer to his goal. A key congressional panel on Thursday approved legislation introduced by the Texas congressman that - for the first time in the central bank's 95-year-history -- would require government audits of Federal Reserve monetary policy, as well as how much the central bank has lent and will lend to specific banks. Fed Chief Ben Bernanke and other key members of the Obama administration, including Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, had vigorously opposed the move. Paul's measure, which was approved by a vote of 43 to 26, would require the Government Accountability Office to audit the central bank's interest rate policy, agreements with foreign governments, foreign central banks and the International Monetary Fund. It also would permit audits of a roughly $800 billion Fed mortgage-backed securities purchase program, which could grow to $1.25 trillion, Paul said. The GAO would be instructed to complete a Fed audit within 12 months of passage of the bill.

I previously posted how there is a flu epidemic in the Ukraine. Now they are saying it is out of control and the flu has morphed into some other virus. Scary.
BTW, the Ukraine is one of the first countries that embraced Christianity after the fall of the Soviet Union. They are a strong nation with a diverse population including cities, mountains, and vast open prairies - much like the USA, but all in the area the size of Texas.

By Greg Miskiw A DEADLY plague could sweep across Europe, doctors fear, after an outbreak of a virus in Ukraine plunged the country and its neighbours into a state of panic. A cocktail of three flu viruses are reported to have mutated into a single pneumonic plague, which it is believed may be far more dangerous than swine flu. The death toll has reached 189 and more than 1 million people have been infected, most of them in the nine regions of Western Ukraine. President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko has called in the World Health Organisation and a team of nine specialists are carrying out tests in Kiev and Lviv to identify the virus. Samples have been sent to London for analysis. President Yushchenko said: “People are dying. The epidemic is killing doctors. This is absolutely inconceivable in the 21st Century.”
